I've got the best of both worlds, living in a terrific city in Kentucky and paradise in TV.I never pull into TV without a huge smile on my face.My girlfriend loves TV and would spend every day of the rest of her life in our village home , with all her new friends.I'm sorry, but if you can't be happy in TV with everything it has to offer, that's a YOU problem, and only YOU can fix it.

[QUOTE=rubicon;409937]angiefox I would have left TV one year after my arrival. The reasons are not personal or family related but have to do with TV. TV sells a lifestyle but that lifestyle can be practiced anywhere . I won't go any futher because it will only upset some residents.
QUOTE] Rubicon I always find your posts reasonable and interesting, and have noted that you are not totally happy in TV, and respect that. The only exception I would take with this post is that the "lifestyle can be practiced anywhere". The Villages lifestyle may be practiced other places, though I have never been to any of them, but most certainly not "anywhere". Where I currently live there is no opportunity to go dancing or enjoy live entertainment once a week, much less every night, I have two golf courses which are each 20 minutes away, and no decent resturaunts or shopping without traveling a half hour or more. Now, there are other things I enjoy about where I live, and am not complaining, but the TV lifestyle cannot be replocated here in any way.

I expect the financial anxiety brought to us by todays economic environment makes many folks anxious, upset or angry. It is difficult seeing your nest egg get scrambled by forces not under ones control. The Villages did promiss a life style, but no one promised life was going to be easy...
I'm not sure who said this but it makes sense to me. "I know a few people who left soon after moving here and they seem to fall into two categories. The first are those used to living in uncrowded areas with a lot of land and cannot cope with the density of homes here. The others fall into two sub categories. Those who want every home to look the same and cannot tolerate even the slightest infraction of the rules like placing a gnome on your lawn. The other sub category goes to the other extreme and wants to be able to paint their home purple if they want, smoke anywhere they wish, blast a radio at the pool, and pretty much do as they please like they did in the last place they lived in." Sandy and I remember going to an open house in TV for a resale home that was fairly new. We asked the realtor why the owner was selling (always inquisitive!). She explained that the gentleman (single) really missed the fishing back in CO as well as being much closer to his daughter...........so he was heading back there! Can't validate the story but it's certainly plausible!
I'd have to imagine missing family is a big pull for some to leave TV. Bill ![]() |

I've read this post from beginning to end and now I'm even confused. This is my post and I forgot what it was about. I had to go back to the OP to see what I was posting about. Please understand that...
This is NOT a love it or leave it post. This is NOT a why did they leave post. But if that's what everyone wants to discuss.... Carry on. ![]() Just be nice....

Having lived most of my adult life in the SF Bay Area, Monday Night Football started at 5:30 PM. My wife just commented that it was nearly 8:30 and Monday Night Football will start soon but she can't stay up past 9:00 and will miss it again. If our kids were around they would stay up with me but they are long gone and it's just us two who want to watch Monday Night Football and she doesn't stay up late.
This may force us to stay in California until February so we can watch Monday Night Football at a respectable time; but then we would miss our daily pickleball games at 8 AM. Nothing but problems here in paradise! .

We are leaving California for the same reasons as yours. But I'm going to miss my kid and grandkids terribly. I will be returning frequently to spoil them rotten. Last week there was a brutal mass killing right down the street from where I live. My podiatrist and physical therapist have their business upstairs from the hair salon that 8 people perished. Southern California is so expensive, the homeless are abundant, I can feel a tightness in people. People are hurting. We will be in TV in 3 weeks to look for a home, we are so excited about this new adventure. My Dad has lived in the TV for five years, he's 82. He loves everything the community has to offer. His wife passed away December of last year, she received wonderful medical treatment and the neighbors were so kind to her and my Dad. The sense of community has brought richness to my family. With that said, we are looking forward to The Villages. My political opinions will be kept closed. Even here in California I don't discuss politics, it makes for a long sticky golf game. I'm pretty happy here in California and I think I'll be happy in Florida, it's all about my perception and attitude. Also, I need to warn the boys, I'm part of the POSSE and I have a serious water cannon I'm bringing from California. ![]() Here we come!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Crime is definitely a factor in moving away from many places...even rural ones (sometimes rural is worse, because police and sheriff can be so far away that the long response time renders them useless). While I know there is some crime here in TV, I feel much safer being amongst so many neighbors close by in our courtyard villas. Chances are, all the dogs would start barking if somebody tried to break in. Almost everyone in our CYV neighborhood has a dog, and their owners are nice and caring. We look out for each other. There's a lot to be said about that! |

When I left work one year ago, I thought being home everyday would be just wonderful. No more getting up at 5am to get ready for work, no more cleaning off the snow in the driveway so I could get to work, only to sit in traffic on the interstate for a hour. I have since realized that, after a visit to The Villages, that I can no longer just sit and stare out a window all day. I really have missed the human contact and the dicipline that my work provided for 30 years. If the Villages is crowded in the winter months, so what? If the Villages housing is a little expensive, so what! If there is an issue or something about the Villages I don't care for, so what! Overall, I cannot find an area that is so well planned, and developed so beautifully as is The Villages.
