My husband and I wave to others when we are on our "street" or close to our home. That way we feel we have things covered just in case it is a neighbor.
Otherwise, we don't wave at every cart we pass; there are just too many! Sent from my KFTHWA using Tapatalk HD |

Wave Breaking News:
1. Village gate greeters vote overwhelming to replace the wave with the nod. 2. Wave now a preexisting condition. 3. Science news make light of a wave as a particle. 4. Major influx of British villagers shows increased usage of the Queens wave. 5. Women wave with left hand more than men. 6. Hand waving popularity directly related to length of women's skirts. 7. As temperature rises hand waving lowers. 8. Formal side to side wave goes bye-bye as thumbs up is now OK. Last edited by SFSkol; 05-26-2017 at 02:45 AM. |

People waving....my perception, my reality Is there more waving? Is there less waving? If less is the cause an increase in population? The current mood of the nation? For those of us who have been here for better than 10 years is it a generational change?
If the perception is that there is less waving is there also a perceptional change in the mood and behavior of people engaged on TOTV? |

waving is nice and friendly .. However, a Wolverine might just give a Buckeye a different kind of friendly wave

When we first moved here, and before there was anything south of 466A, we noticed that we would often get a wave...and happily returned it.
We also noticed that it seemed to occur more frequently toward what was then, the southern half of TOTV. I'm guessing that 'in general,' newcomers are more likely to wave and that the longer they are here...the less likely they are inclined to do so. I support this wholly anecdotal observation, on the fact that it seems in my travels south of 466A...people are still more prone to waving. ![]() |

I have no empirical data on this issue and can only speak for myself.
I shall assume that waving includes all forms of social initiation such as winking, nodding, smiling, grinning, or the utterance of many words or word-like words, including all variations on hello. Waving is a binary behavior. One is either a waver or is not. I grew up in a culture where friendly greetings are the norm, but I realize that, being a small town Southerner, I am in a small minority here in The Villages. In fact, when I hear a Southern accent, I stop that person and demand that they speak to me in my native tongue. Realizing that I now live in a less culturally homogeneous slice of society, I have morphed towards the following behavior: I wave at those who have shown me a traffic courtesy I wave at all those I know and whom I think know me I wave at first responders and military I wave at those who have Saints, Most SEC teams, USAF, or Grateful Dead decals on their carts I return all waves regardless of number of fingers used If my wave is unreturned, my reaction varies from none at all to sub-vocalizing the easiest to lip read two word phrase in the English language

Absolutely fewer waves. Has lost the "home town" feel. However, I am determined to continue to wave. Just like the feeling.
