Hypothetical math: There are 20 available spots in Charter School Q. There are 30 kids who qualify to fill those spots. 19 of them are kids of professionals and business owners in The Villages. The other 11 are kids of waitresses, clerks, and part-timers of various types. All 19 kids of professionals get in, because their families get first dibs. That leaves just 1 spot left, for the remaining 11 kids who also qualify. Only one of those kids will get in, and the other 10 will have to go to their local crappy public school, or their parents will have to pay for private school. |

Would Jacob’s (trash/sewer/water) be a subcontractor? Would the builders, plumbers, and roofers be subcontractors? If so then they would fall in category 2 and should have priority over the doctors and bankers.

A week to find another job for someone who was laid off is ridiculous.
I think some people don't realize what it's like getting a job these days. The hiring practices and processes take much longer than in the old days. |

Losing a Villages job is a choice. Perhaps you decide you don’t like the job and you make the choice to quit. Perhaps you chose to perform poorly and the job let you go. In either case it was a choice the employee made. And yes, absolutely, this puts a lot of power in the hands of the employer. You don’t want to lose that job and your child’s spot in the school so you will put up with a lot before making the “choice” to leave. We have heard in another post that when a business closed the school has given a bit more time for a parent to find a qualifying position. When the parent lost their qualifying job for reasons other than their choice, accommodations were made. The other consideration is the waitlist. Those families really want their child in the Charter school but the rules say they have to wait. It really wouldn’t be fair to them to keep an ineligible student in the school and an eligible person out. They have been waiting a while, they don’t want to wait forever. The system may not be perfect but it also doesn’t seem unreasonable.

Of course like any school system, student no longer performs to the standards, Mom could catch some flack. Happens in all systems in any state. So recruit, can trump anyone on the higher admission list. GPA and Sports move up the list even if the parent shingles houses. |

That may be one of the most reality blind comments ever here. Congratulations on a new low in victim blaming. Do you actually believe that most people have a choice? Most people get laid off because businesses are suffering and they are cutting employees. Restaurants close, stores close. These are hard working people who maybe even took a lower paying job for the perk of school entry and through absolutely no fault of their own get cut loose.

Perhaps continue reading to the fourth paragraph. Haven’t heard of layoffs here in the Villages but it could happen, certainly businesses come and go. But sure, sometimes bad things happen to good people. Unfortunately, it’s usually not possible to write a policy that will cover every possible situation. Maybe paragraph four would come into play in those cases too.
