I believe the most exaggerated pronunciation one hears in TV are those who come from the deep South, and far North East. Most New Yorker's have quite a distinguishable accent and having some very good friends from that part of the country, it does require astute listening skills.........but man oh man.....some of dem can really cook!!

Yeah. They talk funny. The only truly unaccented speech that you hear in TV is from the Ohio people. Boy Howdy!

I live near New York City and I can tell you, they have their own dialects. in Brooklyn they put earl in their car's engine. Every bathroom is has a terlet. R's are pronounced ah at the end of the word.

Here in Indiana we live about 40 miles east of Terre Haute (Terra Hote), 50 miles west of Versailles (Ver-sales), 60 miles south of Carmel (like the candy, not car-mel) and not far from Gnawbone, IN. Also, North Vernon is south, South Bend is in the north and French Lick is a gambling resort.

And Tom, gotta let them know about Milan (My-lun, not Me-lawn) which is the Indiana town that was the inspiration for the movie Hoosiers. It was 1954 and they still are not over their basketball glory. You know how it goes in the Hoosier State.

I am a Cincinnati girl, but I know about that stuff over there across the state line.
