Ya mean the large acreage of Duke storage area of everything power on Powell Road, is really in China? I know that’s it’s a big storage area, but to reach China, their taxes should decrease the farther back it goes

[QUOTE=CoachKandSportsguy;2264272]Public utilities are accountable to the state regulator, your public representative, other than in TX, which is a third world utility system.

They may not be required to give a reason to the general public, but all outages with reasons are documented with outage time, and restored time, and submitted to the regulator. I checked the outage log at my mom's house here in MA, and the most frequent issue were squirrels. . .

It has been many years since I was active, however back then (90's) I kept hearing how vulnerable our grid is to sabotage/terrorism. Is that still the case? If so is anything being done to harden it?

Default Regardless of cause

Regardless of the reason for outage, let’s hope that no one was injured in this incident this morning. If it wasn’t a “planned “ outage, it was most likely an “accidental “ outage. Having spent over 30 years in this line of work, I can tell you, if someone was injured, I’m sure they are sorry you were inconvenienced….SMH

This is what one of my complaints about EV’s, did these EV owners get there EV’s charged before the outage so they can go to work or run there errands! What if the power outage would be for a week or 2. Your EV will be useless! Just something to think about. I’m definitely keeping my combustible car.

Having grown up in Hawaii, this is a nothing burger. Looks like the eco was on it pretty quick which is nice to know. Not always that way on an island.

Yes, those EV owners were able to charge their batteries for the several hours before the outage. If the outage was for a week or two then they would charge their EVs in whatever town they were staying in while waiting for power to be restored.

In the 1970s there was a fuel shortage, gasoline rationing, and long lines at the pumps. I do not recall electrical power outages. I bet many people would have preferred a vehicle that did not rely on gasoline during that time.

If the war in Israel expands then it is possible the oil supply will be affected. If the US gets into the war then there could be higher demands for fuel at the same time there are limitations on the supply. This could theoretically lead to gasoline shortages again. My 5 gallon can of fuel will keep my cart running for a couple of weeks. My 110V outlet will keep my electric cart running indefinitely.

umm, very much so! it would be a poor assumption to think that the most important aspect of modern daily life would not have constantly updated protection as time progresses.

There are two types: physical and technological.

physical security increase has recently seen more attention due to easy access and non complex attack profiles, and an increase in attacks. That is more focused now because the technological is so hard to penetrate today

technological has been ongoing since 9/11 in accelerated fashion, and is much more secure, but never perfect, and always continuing to improve.

a complete grid failure or massive destruction of portions is the worst possible outcome, currently thought to be very, very low probability. However, if that were to ever happen, all the people with investment mortgage arbitrage might be in for a big surprise.

Don't know where you're from, but a 15 minute power outage in most places in the country don't warrant 36 hours of message board posts.

Maybe it's just me, I have a life.

Today there was an outage at Trailwinds Plaza in the afternoon. Don't know how long it lasted, but it definitely messed up the lunch crowd.
