One of the mesh units is "hard wired" and one is wireless.

I could probably find the green circuit breaker in my garage panel while sleepwalking.

I started to keep a log of the dates/times:

This is from November 8 through the 21st (went left for a trip on 11/22 and just got back 12/3)

11/28 at 1956

Keep in mind--these are only the instances where I was here and impacted by the outage! I'm sure there were other times it went in-and-out without notice; tree falls in the forest kind of thing...

Neighbors are going with Xfinity fiber today. Curious if they have an issues.
I've seen issues like what you are describing related to having too many wifi extenders. What happens is the main wifi and the extenders continuously adjust trying to get the best signal to your devices. In doing so, sometimes if they are too close together they "fight" each other resulting in devices dropping off the network.

Can you tell us how big your home is? One or two floors? Exactly where the main wifi pod and the extenders are located?

I would try temporarly disconnecting the wireless extender and see if there are any changes.

Many times when I sell Quantum fiber to a Villager, I always see if they have their own wifi equipment and evaluate the system in their home. I have software to accomplish this. Most of the time I recommend to continue using their existing wifi system if its working well and covering the whole house. The Quantum wifi is actually a very good wifi7 device. You just need to know where to install it to make it cover your whole house. Many times I see it installed in a less than optimal location which can cause issues. This would be the same for any wifi device. So, there is nothing wrong in using your own equipment such as Eero, Orbi, TP-link or other wifi mesh systems. The only thing you need to be aware is if you use your own system, you will have two routers running which in general is not a problem. This is called double NAT'ing or double network address translating becuase the Quantum and your own equipment's routers are running in tandem. But I can disable the Quantum router so your own equipment's router is the main router if desired for those who want their system to be perfect.

That sounds very similar to what jrref referred to in the third paragraph of his post 15 where he clearly explained how there could be a bad connection or the need to clean the fiber at the Fiber Shelf. This would explain how others in my area are having the same problem.

I have a Quantum tech coming again at the beginning of next week. I’ll post what the result of that appointment turns out to be.

Other than this issue which cropped up about a month ago, Quantum stability, reliability and speed, can’t be beat. Like jrref mentioned, no lagging or buffering.

Also, I’d like to add that this particular problem does not noticeable affect all devices. Most devices appear to be able to recover (reconnect) from a momentary drop in signal.
However, if Quantum can’t solve this particular recent issue, I will consider a different service provider, mostly due to the negative affects it has with my desktop mail service.
Thanks for the feedback. One clarification with your problem. Is the Quantum internet connection disconnecting until you re-boot the router or is it a momentary disconnect? If it's a momentary disconnect as you described in your post, then it has to be a loose connection either in your home or somewhere in the fiber. I'm sorry I somehow mis-read your initial post on the exact problem. Just for clarity, the problem I was helping troubleshoot in the Hillsborough area of the Villages was the internet connection, not the wifi, dropping out eventhough the light on the Quantum SmartNid (router) was solid green indicating a good connection. In this scenario, only re-booting the router would get the internet connection back.

When the tech comes out, have him check the ethernet jack in your home that you are plugging in the Quantum wifi pod. If they installed that jack, its a device that crimps the wire and sometimes it's not crimped or tightened all the way. If that's OK then have them check the connector in the garage and then all the fiber connections out to the fiber shelf. There is a fiber connector in the box on the side of your home which can also cause a temporary disconnect. Make sure they replace that. The Quantum tech will know what to do, just make sure they spend the time checking all the connections.

If you still have problems after the tech does all this work, please reach out to me. I would be happy to come by and see if there is anything I can do before you decide to go back to cable. I can test the ethernet wire and connections and I have software to check your wifi network. Although the Quantum tech's who I know have seen your problem in some installs, I've never seen this specific problem. It's probably becasue I don't use those crimp ethernet jacks and I use special RJ45 connectors on the ends of the blue wires in the garage so unless the blue ethernet cable is bad, there will not be any loose connections. Hope this helps and again sorry I mis-read your initial post.

It's a momentary disconnect of the internet, but my Ecobee does not reconnect until the pod is rebooted. My Yahoo online Win 11 email will eventually reconnect but it can take a while, or I can quit out of it and go back in to reconnect. Doing the latter, the service clocks for a while then get's connected.

OK thanks for the information. From my experience, the problem is most likely a bad ethernet connection from the SmartNid (router) in the garage to the Quantum Wifi device, or some intermittent fiber connection eventhough normally this type of issue would not be a momentary disconnect unless your light levels are at the edge of normal limits or it could be your devices disconnecting from the internet because of the wifi signal. The Ecobee thermostat should come right back On when it gets a good signal.

I don't believe it's something back at Quantum's network.

That said, let the Quantum tech take a look and re-check all the connections especially as I mentioned the ethernet jack and connector. If it fails again after that, please reach out to me on 914-419-9398 and I'll be happy to take one last look to see if I can fix the problem before you have to go to another provider. I believe I can fix this for you now that I understand better what's happening.

Previous to this issue starting a month ago, the Ecobee always stayed connected to the wifi. It's in the same room as the Pod and only 25 feet from it.

Thanks for the information but that doesn't mean anything. Wifi can be tricky but I have software to see what's going on with it. With Wifi it's the device that determines which pod it will connect to not the wifi pod device. So, sometimes it makes the wrong choice if the wifi isn't set up properly and the signals are interfering with each other because of less than optimal placement.

Anyway, let us know what happens and as I mentioned I would be happy to come out and take a look for you.

I worked at Verizon for 30 years and also on their FiOS fiber offering so I have a lot of experience with fiber, wifi systems and networking in general. I'm in Quantum's referral program and sign-up and do custom installs if needed for many here in the Villages. This is why I know so much about Quantum's system. Many here in the Villages have many questions about the install and or have special situations and that's where I provide a service that's not readily available here. I've been doing this for about 4 years now so I've pretty much seen everything and am glad to help you with this problem that I have not seen so far.

We had Quantum Fiber out this morning 12/6/25. Great tech showed up. He strongly recommended that neighbors that are having problems to call in and tell them we all having trouble in the Lake Deaton area. When they get enough complaints? they will check it out, he said its on their end and he has 3 calls in our area today. By the way I had a fight on my hands to get a tech out, they were not willing, they said speed is satisfactory. They didn't get the better of this Irishman (be strong) & the tech was very informative, nice gentlemen, helped us understand the problem & very professional

Check the router to see if the green light is solid or blinking. If it's blinking then power off the router then back on to make sure the light is a solid green. If the problem continues you may want to upgrade the router.

Thanks for thi feedback. So, regardless if you have cable or fiber, these companies get calls about slow internet all the time. Most of the time they will tell you to reset the router and typically this corrects the problem. With Quantum fiber I've only had 2 installs out of 65 here in the Villages were the main WiFi pod needed to be power cycled due to slow wifi.

But Bridget, what the tech told your is correct. If you are getting constant interruptions, just keep calling the call center. It takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. When they get enough reports of the same issue, it will be escalated to engineering and someone will figure out what the probem is and correct it. It shouldn't have to be this way but they get a lot of calls where the customer is doing a speed test over wifi in a less than optimal spot or its the content provider or web site which is slow. So, they don't always react to every single call of slow internet or an interruption.

This happens with cable as well.

So, If you are having a problem with your Quantum internet, call the call center on 1-833-250-6306 and ask for tech support and have them reset from their end and create a trouble report.

If you are having wifi coverage or other network issues with Quantum, please reach out to me. I'm happy to discuss what's going on and recommend a solution. Sometimes, I help existing Quantum customers re-locate the main wifi pod or correct problems with their own wifi equipment and everything is resolved. I mainly see too many extender pods installed too close together or less than optimal placement of the wifi equipment causing all kinds of problems. As mentioned, the Quantum and cable techs can only do so much with the time they have allocated to your trouble. Many times a custom install is needed and that's what I specialize in. Hope this helps.

Cool A little Off Topic But

I have Quantum 3 GB and for the lifetime price of $100 it can't be beat. But I'll probably die before I can actually use 3 GB because my personal equipment can't achieve anything close to that, but it's the same price I was paying for Xfinity 500 mb so why not. Plus the router and modem were included and I paid for my own with Xfinity.

To get the high speed you have to have a WiFi 7 compatible computer, tv, phone, etc which most people don't have since it's the latest standard and most people are still using WiFi 5 or 6. The only devices Apple makes that are WiFi 7 capable are the new iPhone 17 and the M5 iPad Pro. But eventually we'll all buy new equipment and then we can use what we're paying for.

Another wrinkle I found was that you might have to turn off your VPN to reach the higher download/upload speed. I use Nord VPN and it somehow throttles the speed to around 350 MB unless it's paused or turned off. Without the VPN I get around 1.1GB with WiFi 6. It varies but it's consistently quite high. Maybe a different VPN wouldn't do that but I don't know. You can check your own speeds using Ookla or Speedtest.

Most here in the Villages don't realize how cheap internet services are here compared to the rest of the country. But still, many have to save that $5-$10/month to get the cheapest service possible. Very basic cable service is $30-$40/month while the best most advanced fiber service is $50-$55/month. Not a significant difference for most living here in the Villages. As far as speed is concerned, although most will never use more than 500Mbs over the next years, cable companies often use sales tactics like offering 1Gbs service for $40-$50/month when you never get those download speeds most of the time due to the shared cable technology. I helped a neighbor sign-up for Quantum recently. They had that 1Gig service for cheap but decided to pay an extra $15/month for Quantum and the responsiveness of the internet was significant, the picture on their TV was sharper and of course, no more buffering at peak times. They couldn't believe the difference. Anyway, more than you can believe have switched to fiber internet here in the Villages where they can get it and this has the cable companies offering crazy deals for a year or two in an attempt to draw these customers back. I always ask, why would you down grade back to cable to save $10/month? They even offer a free year of cell service only to raise the price after that year, so you have to then again switch carriers. Most don't get that there are several cellular companies such as Consumer Cellular, T-Mobile, Visible, Mint and others which sometimes have better pricing and service long term than cell service offered by cable companies.
