Smile Peaceful recreation sites

Good morning, My brother and his family will be visiting us in January. He enjoys nature walks and solitude. Any suggestions regarding places we can visit outside TV. Would like him to purchase a home in TV but without a sylvan retreat or two it might be a challenge. Thanks for your help!

Ocala National Park could be a place of solitude.

Kelly Park in Apopka. Small, clean, 5 bucks a carload. Stop outside the gate and rent an innertube for each person. Go to the head of the spring (easy walk) and float down the little river. <repeat>.

Bring a picnic lunch, chairs and blanket. I've seen otters and deer there, no alligators as the water is too cold.

Don't go on weekends as it's crowded.

Enjoy...

Default Peaceful recreation sites

We are visiting the Villages for the first time in November. I would say that while we enjoy people and activities, we are not 'party animals'. Do you think this is a problem? Everybody seems awfully scheduled and busy.
Thanks, Maryanna

Default You control your schedule

No problem. You are only as busy as you want to be. You don't have to sign up for every club or activity, in fact I'm not signed up for any. We keep plenty busy with our neighbor friends and it seems there's always something to do close to home. But, if we choose not to be busy we decline invitations and sit by our pool and watch the golfers. It's a lifestyle that you choose. Busy or not. It's a great place to live!

Cookie I too love nature and solitude and find both in TV so it's entirely possible to have both. You can rent a kayak in Rainbow Spring one of the most beautiful springs you can find with azure blue water. Hiking in the Ocala National Forest is another good thing to do. Air boat rides on the lakes and rivers. Here is a previous thread from TOTV describing some day trips, you can cherry pick what you want. Good luck, one of the nicest things that's happened to me since moving to TV is my sister moving here.

What are some fun, interesting day trips you can make from the Villages?

We have been here since June and are home-bodies. It's wonderful all TV has to offer, but not everyone is doing everything like it sometimes sounds. We enjoy golf and our neighbors and going out to dinner occasionally, but are not running around like chickens with our heads cut off. We ejoy relaxing on our enclosed lanai and each other's company. Like someone said you make it what you want it to be. It has truly exceeded my expectations. Hope it does your as well.

I believe that there is a hiking club and also a bird watching club. Your brother could get involved with them or if he prefers to do things on his own rather than part of a group, I would bet the presidents of either of these clubs could provide appropriate venues for communing with nature.

Cross Florida Greenway Trails:

Greenways & Trails: Cross Florida Region

There is a trail head about a mile North of the CR 484 East of I-75 Exit 341. Take CR 475A and there is a drive to a parking lot on the West side of the Hwy. It shows on Google Maps. Wear appropriate clothing - loose long sleeves and pants.

Paradise park just over the golf cart bridge can be very nice. It's right on the edge of a lake. It's not in the middle of nowhere, but it's pretty quiet. There's also a lot os shade trees so it's always relatively cool.

We don't golf or play pickleball. You can spend time walking, going to the many state parks around here, paint, do home crafts. You don't have to do everything as a group.

We enjoy what we choose to do......I'd be busy every day if I wanted to.
