Guess that shoots down the naysayers that the developer will not allow this information to be published.
This is really good to hear. Really, if they want to help the community they should share this information. The sherrif's department can't be expected to do it all. Publishing the information regarding the burglaries is a great way to have even more eyes and ears out there helping keep watch for things that don't seem right.

Exclamation Community Watches...

Community watches work for sure. We live in a 12 house cul-de-sac and I'm going to try to get my neighbors on board. I know they will be receptive. We had this in Illinois, and it worked. Strange vehicles and people were definitely watched and at times reported.

Now, here's a really stupid question. The sensor lights. Aren't they set off by the slightest movement, i.e. a low flying bird coming to the fountain or a rabbit, etc.

My cats saw something outside the lanai last night that scared them and they started this horrible howl. When I walked out there, they were all puffed up and staring at something in the dark that I could not see. I grabbed them and ran into the house. I don't think it was a stray because they wouldn't have acted this way. The howls were so loud and blood-curdling, I have to think if was a prowler, it would have scared the (...) out of them! Anyway, my question is what about other things running or flying through the yards? Should we expect the lights would or could be set off too easily???

Or, maybe better safe than sorry.

We are not in TV now. I would buy a paper if we were there.
The Daily Sun does not put every thing on their web site. The map indicated Barcelona Dr., San Juan Dr., Soledad Way, Durango Dr., San Marino Dr., Carrera Dr.

We have had experience with the motion detector lights. Had trees in our yard and whenever the wind blew, the motion of limbs would trigger the lights. Also any type of animal walking through the yard--we were in the country--from a stray cat, possum, etc., would also cause the lights to come on. Have talked to others in The Villages that had them but had to disconnect them because when they came on they would shine in their neighbors windows. We were going to install them but decided not to because of the close proximity of our neighbor's house. If we had no one in our "backyard" we would probably install them.

Chels -
I had one tree in the back yard that would trigger the lights every time it was windy, but the bulb position was readjusted just a little and it's worked fine since then.

Thanks for the list, Boogie Shooter. Though we did not buy on any of the streets listed, we know where they are.

I do believe that with everyone looking for the thieves, they will be caught. Though we don't own in a truly gated community, I think a picture is taken of each car entering and leaving TV.

Chels,
We had just gotten one installed the day before our break in.
Mainly for taking the dogs out at night.
But of all things,,,had not switched it on yet.

It's been on ever since tho, and we haven't had any problem with it coming on unless we go out. Ours is right above the lanai screen door.
It only stays on for a short time then goes off.
Until we pass in it's field again.

07,,,
I do not know of any other burglaries in the Virginia Trace area.
Altho I'm sure there could have been and we just didn't hear about it.
We were told by the police that we were the first one below 466, and the first with dogs inside.

Bogie, this is one of those times I'm happy to be wrong.

It may be more helpful to residents and (probably) to the police, if The Sun ran a daily column, "Police Blotter" or something to that effect. Folks are better prepared and better able to be on the lookout for unusual happenings, if they are made aware of such incidents in a more timely manner.

I'm so sorry for anyone who's home was broken into. It's good to hear Sumter Co. Police responded so quickly.

Is anyone thinking of getting a security system? I am. Any recommendations from anyone who has one? Brinks or ADT.

Let's all be vigilant and watch for one another.

Pili
