Default Rental scam part 2

Several weeks ago I entered a thread about a lady (Denise Allen)cashing my $700 security check for a rental at 1525 E Swartz Blvd and puff disappeard. She was foreclosed on Feb 1,2012 by the previous owner for this property.

The latest is that while I was in TV I met with a detective from the lake county sheriff's office several times and the day before I returned to NH he informed me that he was turning the case over to the attorney generals office. I had also talked to seniors vs crime and recently received a letter from them that as they had no police power were turning this over to the sheriff.

Have since made several calls to the attorney generals office at the lake county phone number and they have no record of my case.

Is something strange or what.

Do you have the right county and phone number? TV is located in Sumter, Lake and Marion counties.

E. Schwartz is in the historic portion of TV but not sure if it is only in Lake County or if it is within the limits of the Town of Lady Lake also. The police agency could have been the Lady Lake PD or the Lake County Sheriff. You need to make sure you got the right police department that handled your case when you ask "What is happening on my case the XX PD transferred to you?". Whomever wrote you from the Attorney Generals Office was also correct. The AG primarily does high level civil and criminal stuff. Their criminal work tends to be at a high level, multi-county or multi-state level like child pron, gambling, pill mills, organized fraud, etc. Individual Bad Check cases would not be their in their bailiwick. An organized ring of bad check passers might be. Also I don't think the AG has any offices in Lake County. You said you called a Lake County number. Local criminal matters are usually prosecuted by the State Attorneys Office (muck like a District Attorney in most other states). The State Attorneys Office definitely does have an office in Lake County, in Tavares, I think. The State Attorneys Office and the Attorney Generals Office are distinctly separate branches of state government. So make sure you are contacting the right prosecuting agency as well.

I would guess your case unfortunately fell through the cracks of the law enforcement bureaucracy. That often happens at the state level. In my opinion, (retired law enforcement) you are better served by the local police department. It is important to determine the proper jurisdiction, then after doing so write a letter to the Police Chief or the Sheriff outlining the complaint. I am sure they will give it the attention it deserves. Nothing against the senior citizen volunteers who help out and are well appreciated. But, if you have a problem and it is not being properly addressed you must go right to the top of the leadership chain. Good Luck, I hope this scammer is made to account for her criminal behavior.

That address is clearly in Lake County. Did you file a written report/complaint? That makes a difference.

Thank you for your thread. I contacted the lady lake police dept. today and was told that I need to go to the civil court system and file a charge. The women that I mentioned has 2 charges against her by the lady lake PD
- charge 1 was retail theft and charge 2 was scheme to defraud. I understand she was a guest of the lady lake department in Nov. for a few days. She also has a mug shot that I received on the internet. Denise Allen does get around.
