Age 55 does not automatically equate to "retired". Only certain career tracks retire at age 55. Many of us do not have a defined-benefit or pension plan, but have and are still working to build our self-retirement funds.

There are many people living here who are over 55 and are still working, in small businesses of their own in which they can finally be their own boss; or part-time nurses, technicians, etc. who work at the hospital; handymen, etc. etc. etc. There are many people still working because they like to keep their mind and hands active, and that's a good thing IMHO.

A 55+ community is deceiving.....I live in a 55+ community just south of here.

I'm only posting on this thread because this is the very last day I can ever say
I'm under 55

I turn 55 years old tomorrow. I bought in a 55+ community 6 years ago, and was never even asked my age. so, to some folks, tomorrow I will be "legal".
I work in The Villages most everyday.

I am a retired firefighter. Up north at the firehouse I was the second oldest guy on the Department. I was one of the "old guys". I moved down here and I'm "The kid".

Although retired, I work everyday climbing on roofs, crawling through attics, etc. I'm allowed to say that because I am an advertiser here on TOTV.

I do not mean to hijack the thread at all......just pointing out that one needs to be careful of stereotyping what an "under 55" person is. I am one....at least for one more day.....

Respectfully, Frank

Happy Birthday Frank.

155 more....at least.

AND on the age issue. Those kids just aren't as smart as we are.

We built south of 466A and an easy observation is the younger Retirees that purchased homes in this new area of TV. As we know, 20% of residents may be below age 55 in a legal Adult community----TV, I believe, is well below that number. I believe the Developer keeps the numbers on age, however, in the case of a community that is "built out" like The Plantation, I wonder if number of residents below 55 records are kept.

We rented to three delightful young ladies from California last fall who were optometry students and interning at the VA Clinic. They were wonderful renters and have become good friends. They graduate this month and will become optometrists.

Then if they are able to do this what can they do with a guest pass if they are under 30?

You should not be opening a rental to just anyone_ this is a 55+ community. They can rent outside of the village. READ BELOW!

DEED RESTRICTIONS! Follow the rules!

At least one person who is 55 years old or older must live in the residence. People who are 19 years old or younger may not reside in the villages, they can visit 30 days per year.

Here is a quote from The Villages deed restrictions page:

"Age Restrictions: The Villages is an adult community designed to provide housing for persons 55 years of age or older. All homes must be occupied by at least one person who is fifty-five years of age. Persons under the age of 19 years may visit for a maximum of 30 days per year but may not reside permanently in a any dwelling."

But, what if we could just attract some of these young, up and coming docs to TV 'cause it's so awesome and they experienced it for themselves. Okay, I know, on the other hand we could also attract gangsters and drug dealers except I'm not sure what we have to offer they would be so interested in.

You are violating Deed restrictions:

At least one person who is 55 years old or older must live in the residence. People who are 19 years old or younger may not reside in the villages, they can visit 30 days per year.

You do realize that 20% of the homes in TV can be occupied by those under the age of 55. Here are a couple threads that discuss this issue.

you can still buy a home under 55...and no where does it state how old a tentent has to be, but no children under 19 for more than 30 days....our new neighbors are 44 and 46..very nice doctors, who are only here just short of three months a year

Seems like some confusion on language. A medical student is not an intern and not a resident. They spend 4 years post college in medical school (assuming we are talking MD degree). When they graduate they are doctors but no where near ready to practice medicine. The first year of post-medical school may be called a year of internship depending on the field of study or may be called a first year of residency. After completing that first year they become residents. So at least in medicine there is no such thing as "medical students in their last year of residency" You certainly can rent to anyone of any age just no kids for longer than 30 days. I don't know why medical students or lowly paid interns and residents would want to pay the price for a Villages home versus a nearby rental for fewer dollars. Of course it may well be their training program is picking up the bill. They'd likely be good tenants.

both of our kids as med students, and interns were give a stipend for rent thats why you usually get two..and staying in the villages in off season is a good deal they don't need a car... once they were a resident there was housing at the hospital
