Default Replacement Light For Kitchen Exhaust Hood

Our villages house was built in 2021, we have a Broan series PM500 kitchen exhaust unit, and the lights have failed. I ordered replacement bulbs, which worked for one of the fixtures, but not the other. I removed the failed light fixture and noticed some slight burned marks where the lamp plugs in, so I'm thinking that this is the problem.

When searching for a replacement light for this hood the part number given is SB02300798, however the dimensions given for this light fixture will not fit in the hole, it's 2.47", and the hole is 2.1875"

Another part number listed as a replacement is SB02300906, however I can't find the dimensions of this fixture to verify

Bran unit was made in Poland, any ideas on where to find a light fixture replacement?

Thanks

I would contact NuTone (Broan) for the correct light or call a company like Lighting Supply to verify size and what you need. You could also call an authorized repair center to get the bulb.

I find that many times buying off Amazon, the seller name may be the actual company name, but they are in fact not. They may be an affiliate of some sort that legally can use the name according to Amazon, but they sell "scratch/dent/2nds/refurbished" products. The light size could very well be a 2nd, improperly made and being sold for general use. Probably won't last as long as actual company product sold directly by the actual company.

I ran into the same issue replacing the turntable motor on microwave with a Bosch store on amazon. Finally got the right one from the actual Bosch company website and was told this info when I called them.

You just have to do your due diligence before buying on Amazon. I still buy frequently on Amazon for repair items, but spend the extra few minutes verifying. Good Luck.

I was finally able to get ahold on Broan after my post, and they offered no help, said the hood & light were both discontinued, and the only option they offered was replacing the unit, which I will not due because of a light.

Since they provided no options, I will look for a replacement hood light that will fit the existing hole, I was reluctant to go this route as I will need to cut off the connector that comes on it, and splice in the connector from the old light so it connects to the existing hoods wiring

OP, the original bulbs were probably incandescent or halogen both of which tend to run hot. In many cases you can find LED replacements bulbs with run much cooler and much lower power requirements. I would look at the original bulb for a model number, then look for a LED replacement. I would then carefully clean the existing bulb socket, and install the new LED bulb, with any luck you will be back in operation. Since it appears you have to original bulb socket out of the unit, I would be glad to take a look at it and possibly clean it.
Send a PM is you are interested and would like to discuss over the phone, NOTE I screen all calls, so you may need to leave a message for a call back.

Default VT, thanks for the suggestions

I already identified an LED light fixture that will physically fit my application, which will be here Saturday, then following your recommendation I just ordered LED lamps to replace the halogen bulb in the existing fixture, which will be here tomorrow. You are right the halogen lights burn very hot, this may be why the plug in terminals are discolored. I will clean the plug in locations, and try the new bulbs tomorrow when they arrive in the existing fixtures, thanks again for the information

If not being obvious, I would throw (turn off) the breaker before sticking any thing up the socket hole to clean it, wet rags, fingers, etc.

Thanks for the thoughts, I always work behind the breaker being off even though in this case the voltage is 12 VDC, the socket in this case are 2 holes where the two prongs of the bulb stab in, cleaning will mainly be spraying with an electrical cleaner hoping to remove any build up

Received LED lights yesterday, cleaned the light socket with electrical contact cleaner as best as I could spraying it into the very small holes that the lamp prongs plugged into. Plugged in the new LED lights, and can only get them to light by moving them around in the socket. I believe that the sockets have been damaged by the high heat of the original Halogen lamps. I really like the lite from the new LED lamps. The new LED light fixtures will arrive today, If they fit the mounting holes correctly, I think the problem will be solved

Thank you for the update, if the new assemblies do not fit, feel free to contact me about taking the new light sockets and installing in the old housings, I have lots of screws, bolts and pop rivets.

take needle nose pliers and ever so slightly bend the male prongs?
