Not much of a cake eater, so I can't attest to the taste, but if you want pretty....Fresh Market cakes are beautiful. I have tasted their cookies, and whenever they have a cake cut up for samples, at the check-out, I try them. Always delicious.

We went down a little dirt road and there was a lady standing in the doorway of a clapboard house with filthy windows and she was smoking just inside the house. There was a dog at her feet inside the house. Is that the place? Surely not.
Don't worry, that wasn't a cigarette she was smoking (hence the name Donna's Dream Cakes) and her dog is a service dog so it's OK. Oh, and the dirty windows keep her competitors from stealing her recipes.

They discontinued my favorite, chocolate with strawberry.

They have kinda good ones at Publix but never as good as Resch's bakery in Columbus, Ohio when I was a kid. I am pretty sure Martha Washington got hers from there too. We were in the same class in grade school.
Did her hair look like George's? Mine was compared to his in the sixth grade. (Oops... oirry for the hijack.)

When I was at Donna's Dream cakes, her kitchen is separate from the house, even though it is in the same building.

If that was an older woman you saw smoking, it was her mother. She lives with her parents. I don't remember it being dirty in there. Just old.

But I was only there twice, and that was a year ago.

She has the best cannole I've ever tasted, and will do a platter of assorted small desserts that are bite-sized pieces. That's what I took to a driveway party, that and her cake pops. They went over big.

It was an older woman, @CFrance. I didn't want to start a diss-fest on her business. I didn't know how to ask without it seeming that way either. I'd read others' reviews of her business and it sounded amazingly good. I was just shocked when I went by the house. You can't judge a book by its cover and everybody is different.

Just checked the restaurant inspection website....no listing for Donna's Dream Cakes.
No license, therefore no inspections.
Here's the website if anyone wants to check out other restaurant inspection reports. After you get the list, you can click on the date and see a detailed report.

Most grocery store "bakery" items are indeed not made at the store. My youngest son is a quality control manager for a company called Gonnella Baking which has several facilities around the country and they supply a large number of grocery chains with bread, rolls & cake that are either partially or fully baked and that the store either thaws out and finishes the baking process or just finishes up the decoration and final touches. They are not necessarily bad products, but they are not scratch made in the stores, as the grocery companies would like you to believe.

It's not a restaurant. I believe it comes under the Cottage Food law, and probably does not require inspections .I cannot vouch for the cleanliness of the place. Caveat emptor!!

Barnes & Noble cafe has the most delicious cakes and cookies. Their cakes are from Cheesecake Factory and are yummy.

Thanks, PapaLarry. That's what we called (genericly) coffee cake when we were kids. But no German in my family.
