And if you're there during the Crispers monthly meeting - please attend. You'll most likely have instantaneous friends.

We decided we needed some minimum basics in the way of furniture before our first visit to our home, so we went to the Rooms to Go Clearance WAREHOUSE (there's only one of these, in Seffner near Tampa; there are several Clearance CENTERS which are much smaller and much less flexible) and so started out with some BR furniture including, yes, a bed; a sofa; and a DR table and chairs.
Before we left home, we went onto www.orlando.craigslist.org and www.ocala.craigslist.org and found many things we needed. We explained to sellers our situation (that we were flying down in a week or two), and they were willing to hold items for us that we thought from the pics we would want. In the end we bought practically everything we looked at online, having laid out a route from the airport in Orlando to TV. We continued looking on both craigslists once we got here and managed to get the place furnished pretty quickly and incredibly reasonably. Ditto on the yard sales; you can do great here--but you have to get up and get there mighty early! Besides Bargains & Treasures, there's also a pretty nice consignment shop in Ocala, though it would be hard to explain as we're not that familiar with Ocala. It's in the same shopping center as Staples, if that helps. A GPS would be really helpful. We generally found that prices on craigslist were much more reasonable than those in the consignment shops. Good luck, and welcome to the 'hood! Do come to the Crispers luncheon third Friday of the month at 3 p.m. if you're here then. |
