The last time I heard that phrase was when Caylee Anthony went missing in Orlando and everyone (writing to the Orlando Sentinel) was accusing each other of being trolls......one faction was giving the mother the benefit of the doubt while the other faction was trying her in the media and press before a trial ever came to be.

What would the characteristics of a troll be as pertains to the TALK OF THE VILLAGES FORUM? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Be open, honest and authentic and you will attract the same kind of person. My advice is , DON'T FEED THE TROLLS, by leaving the forum or altering anything you want to say.
I picked on that too!

I am going to post something that may be completely wrong, but very sincere.

I have met both of the women; Village Girl and Happinow. I have found many many MANY qualities to like in both of them.

I myself have written things to the effect, don't let others sway you or get you down....BUT

When others on this forum or anywhere have said you may have gone too far or really, REALLY, disagree with your stance or your behavior, there may well be an element of truth in what they say. We cannot reinvent ourselves or reach farther for their approval as I do sometimes, because I am way too easily hurt...

But...it doesn't hurt to entertain the thought that those who don't agree with you might be right. And it doesn't hurt to perhaps think about things for awhile. Most here are friends who once they like you will put up with a lot...and some are anonymous meanies. But most have the ability to listen with their heart and modify their stance a little.

Both Happinow and Village Girl have given us a lot of fun and have had many interesting things to say. No one can kid me, they both have good hearts.

Let's go back to how it was.

Please, neither of you leave us.

I am not sure I have ever even seen any outrageous posts here on TOTV unless thet were taken down before I had a chance to see them.

a good example is when gracie and i disagreed vehemently over jeff ashton and his antics during the casey anthony proceeding. it became clear neither of us would relent our feelings publicly so she sent me a PM and we discussed our reasons privately and cleared the air. been forum friends ever since!!!

Well said, Gracie. There is room for all types of honest, sincere personalities on this forum. We won't all like or dislike the same folks but should at least respect different opinions without taking it personally or making it personal.

No one should leave the forum for being bullied. By the same token, the more you reveal about yourself, the more exposed you are to others' opinions and criticisms.

May there be peace in the valley...

Life is fleeting. We lost a much loved member yesterday.
Please, enjoy life, embrace each other, remember that differences make life interesting. In the grand scheme of things, this disagreement is diddly squat.

"An "Internet troll" or "Forum Troll" or "Message Board Troll" is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Forum Troll delights in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war."

The Straight Dope: What is a troll?

"The term "troll" can have a double meaning, related to fishing and ugly monsters. Both are appropriate.

"Troll," in the context of message boards and the like, describes somebody who is posting just to be confrontational or to raise hackles. One example might be a teenager who finds a Jewish message board and posts, "The Holocaust never happened." The teen may not know or care one way or the other--he just wants a reaction. He wants to **** people off. He is a troll."

From:

Free Online Dictionary of Computing (http://foldoc.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/foldoc.c gi?troll) notes, "Trolling aims to elicit an emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their minds."
THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!! Appreciate your detailed explanation !!!!

Thanks for this posting. It comes the closest to explaining to people exactly what a troll is and helping them to understand exactly what message they're conveying when they loosely toss around that accusation.

IMHO, and in consideration of the true meaning of a troll, there are no regular posters that I've detected that deserve being referred to as a troll, at least not anyone that has been involved in these current discussions in progress. However, I do have to say that there are some posters that come dangerously close to actually being a troll, when they irresponsibly and without proper understanding of the term directly or indirectly (by support of others) accuse others of being a troll, especially when the accused is not! Personally I feel that calling another a troll is not in the spirit of this forum, if not in direct violation of the rules, and as such they should have their posts deleted as well as be addressed about this by the administration or moderation of this forum!

I agree. A quiet sabbatical can often bring a new perspective.
