Planning our move to TV (Sanibel). As all future TVers do, we're mapping out each room for furniture selection/placement.
We anticipate having guests at our TV home 4 to 6 weeks a year; the remainder of the time the guest bedroom wouldn't be used for sleeping purposes. So if we have a dedicated bed (to sleep 2) for that room, that room would go heavily underused 46 to 48 weeks a year. Would a Murphy bed, or sleeper sofa make more sense? We plan to bring our treadmill with us, and it would either go in the guest bedroom or BR 3, which we plan to use as our office/study. Our TV home model is a Lantana. If we go the sleeper sofa route, we would want a very comfy one that would look great and serve admirably for sleeping purposes (wouldn't look/feel like a wafer-thin mattress). Or should we just accept the fact that a stand-alone bed is the best solution, and accept the fact BR 2 would go heavily underutilized the overwhelming part of the time? Gene & Kathy |

G & K, I brought with me a futon when I moved from LA that has a temperpedic (sp?) mattress on it. It did cost a lot but its well worth it. I very rarely have guests but when I do, they say its the best mattress they have ever slept on. Because its a futon, it doesn't have to fold so many times as a sleeper sofa so its really comfortable when transformed into a bed. Most futons had really thin mattresses so I upgraded mine to get a firmer, more comfortable mattress. It allowed me to use the 3rd bedroom as an office. Good luck!! Can't wait for you guys to get here permanently.

I have a queen-size sofa bed in one bedroom and twin trundle beds in third. Seems to be flexible enough and works out pretty well. If they hate the sofa bed they won't stay too long LOL

I stayed with my sister in Boston for a few days last year. She had no extra sleeping space but bought one of those air beds and put it in her living room. It was much more comfortable than any sofa bed, futon or murphy bed that I have ever slept on. The other nice thing about it is that it folds up into a little 18" X 18" little box which, unlike a sofa bed, doesn't take up any room in your second bedroom at all.

![]() Now we have twin beds in the guest room, and a queen size pull-out sofa in the office. We keep a four-inch queen-size foam pad rolled up in the attic. It makes the pull-out sofa very comfy if we have overflow company.

We have a queen size sleeper sofa in the den. It has a built in air mattress that's very comfortable. You can adjust it for just the right firmness, just like a sleep number bed. Got it at Southern Lifestyles @ Sumter Landing. Tell Sharon Starr you want to look at one just like Bob & Bev purchased. She's a big help. She'll know just which one you're talking about.

If you go the sleeper sofa route make dang sure it's one of those that has the dang bar across the middle that strikes most people right in the small of their dang back. Everyone raves about those! LOL

We are looking at a sleeper sofa with a inflatable mattress seems to be comfortable. We also have an inflatable queen bed that stands alone, you can sit on the edge when fully inflated you are not low to the floor.

glgene: We had a fold-down queen size bed custom built. We spent several weeks with different layouts and decieded to have a conbination dresser drawer/TV unit built . It is high and we placed our flatscreen on it and provided an area to place the control box. We wanted storage space and have three drawers the length of the dresser and two opposite the control box opening.
On the opposite wall we build a combination desk folding queen size bed. We added two leather recliners. So we have a consolidated a TV/Office/Bedroom. My wife calls it the man cave. We did it in our favorite wood paneling |
