Default Smelly Pot

Has anyone out there figured out a creative way to address the smelly habits of residents who infringe on your home area with their illegal usage of pot? We don’t want to call the cops and have been polite up to this point but the problem seems to be expanding. What’s a great solution to stopping the smell while keeping law enforcement from arresting the culprits.

It really does seem to be an expanding problem that is coming from several places now here in the Villages. We have smelled it about everywhere.

How do you know it is illegal? If they have a Florida marijuana license, it is legal.

What makes you think their usage is illegal?

Putting aside the focus on pot, what would you do about smells from cigars, incense, or grilling?

Call the cops. If the users are fined enough times, they will hide their crimes a little better.

Because we have already politely talked to the individuals. It did get a little better for a while but now it seems the stinkers have returned with a vengeance. The users aren’t licensed. We know that from other neighborhood group conversation.

Focus on your home…kinda hard to believe it’s a constant issue as I would think they would smoke inside and get the hothouse second hand effect?

I have lived here for 12 years. It is only recently that I have noticed an increase in the usage. I don't really care if someone uses it, but I don't want to smell it anymore than I want to smell cigarette smoke. It is much more invasive and disgusting. Smoke in your own home. And it is illegal so I don't know why nothing is done. Certain bands at the square seem to draw more pot smokers.

At least at the Squares and in public, it is a transitory annoyance as you and/or they walk by. At your home lanai, the stink from that rotten dead skunk smell is not only horrible, it is a health hazard.

We joke about contact buzzes, etc., but this is no different than how people felt in the 80's about cigarette second-hand smoke and look how it is universally agreed upon to be health hazard as well.

As the decades advance and our knowledge grows, we look back at hindsight at what toxicities we exposed ourselves then with casual disregard and realize how foolish we were. That is occurring now with marijuana.

OP has my sympathies.

I don't really want to smell anything, cept maybe good food. Cigars, cigs, pot, perfume. Really irritating sitting in outdoor restaurants that ruin the experience with smelly.

This was on today's AOL news. Can't disagree. Several of my hs friends that were heavy p-users went on and destroyed their lives with heavier drugs. All dead now; died early.

Totally true. The smell isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s repulsive. The people of Florida have already spoken . It is against the law to use the drug for recreational purposes. If only they made the gummies to taste like the smell.

Be careful, someone might just quote some statistics for your assertion.

Are gummies the issue? You do know you don't smoke them, right? Seems like gummies should be encouraged as a smell-less alternative to smoking.

The entire reason I voted against recreational usage. I don't care if adults use pot. Not my business.

But I've seen more smoking on the squares. We have a guy in our neighborhood that "wakes and bakes" most every morning. I'm glad I don't live too close. It reeks.

Just like cigarette and cigar smoke, or kimchee or limburger cheese, once I can smell it in my private space, it's a problem. We live too close to each other. Curb it or use edibles if you need it constantly, please.

Trying to change other people's behavior, is a frustrating and often fruitless exercise that will generally leave you more unhappy.

What are some things you could do on your side? Enclose your lanai with double pane glass? Move to a house on a corner so there are fewer neighbors and a larger lot?
