Interesting.

I don't think anyone has the right to ask anyone else to change their ways. I absolutely do not see that anyone has the right to call a perfect stranger a S.O.B.

I just worry about smokers. It is so very dangerous the longer you do it.

If it wouldn't hurt you, likely give you cancer.... I wouldn't care at all...Well not much.

You can sure tell who smokes and who doesn't and who is tolerant of others foibles on this thread....and who thinks about others....

Life is so short to fuss about this.

And you can organize movements until the cows come home. People who smoke are gonna smoke and people who don't like to smell it are gonna b...I mean fuss.

When reading a couple of different threads on TOV, I can't figure out which is worse:
A puffing smoker,
or
A non-scooping pooper
????

Noone will ever win this argument in my opinion! That being said---I'm a former smoker who quit 30+ years ago and am so glad I did. My FIL was a smoker and passed away with emphysema, a horrible illness and death! At any rate...in my case, I probably have asthma now and really have difficulty with any kind of smoke--be it from a fire-pit, a golf cart or a smoker. For me it's about being able to breath and of course health. Just walking past these places is hard. The original poster has the right to sit where he wants to and he was also correct in saying that the smoker was inconsiderate (evidently he didn't ask permission to light up..which is what he could have done). I can sort of see both sides in that there is a "right" to be had. But seriously folks to disparage the poster...just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm a smoker. I am a retired 3rd grade teacher who taught in the same district and with a team teacher for 15 years with absolutely no one having a clue I smoked until I revealed it shortly before my retirement.

I should buy stock in Fabreze and Listerine mouth freshener. I used both regularly so not to offend anyone and they obviously worked!

I am a considerate smoker. I smoke only where it is legally allowed. I do not infringe upon non smokers by smoking in non-smoking areas. I smoke in smoking areas only. I smoke in outside seating areas of restaurants because it is allowed.

I have tried to quit through hypnosis, using the patch/gum and Welbutrin to no avail. I even tried the smokeless E-cigs. I want to quit but haven't been successful.

Please don't berate me for following the law. If you want to change the law then go for it. I will abide and follow it if you are successful.

However, until a new law is passed...if you are a non smoker then sit in your designated area because I DO! Don't sit in the area I have a legal right to sit in then complan about it. If you make a choice to sit in the smokers area when you are a non smoker, then you made a bad choice and you have no right to complain!

I would think you're going to have someone who is not happy about it. I try to give smokers a fair shot, but if your cigar smoke was wafting over to my house, I would have a problem with it.

However, it is the right of the homeowner to smoke on their property if they want to. You may not like it but there is nothing you can do about it.

I am a smoker of which I am not proud of but will admit that I enjoy the filthy habit. I don't expect anyone to understand this nor do I expect any one to tolerate my filthy habit. I totally respect non-smokers. With that being said, I find it disgusting that so many people have NO REGARD for smokers. Many laws have come about over the years and the smoker has for the most part adjusted & accepted those changes. It's apparent that SOME non-smokers would NEVER accept or adjust to ANY changes if it were them having to make those changes. Public smoking areas are few & far between and I think for those of you who are bothered by cigarette smoke should STAY The H_ _ _ out of those permitted areas. Go elsewhere and enjoy your alcohol & if you should then drive home I'll hope that it is not on the streets that I travel!

I still can't get over the fact that he called his server a "barmaid"!

The smoker was inconsiderate????...and had an obligation to "ask" permission to light up? Don't you get it? The smoker had every right to light up...s/he was sitting in a legal smoking area. The non smoker had no grounds for complaint! Geesh!

I can get along just fine in any nonsmoking area - 6 hours on a plane trip, 2 hours in a movie, a restaurant, a class, someone's home or car, a hospital, etc., etc. If I know I can't smoke I don't even think about it. Honest!
But if I'm in a place where smoking is permitted, I am going to light up. If you don't like it, then you should not be in the smoking area. Period. You have a zillion more places available than I do.

do you worry about your neighbors now?

Just like you would be taking a risk of buying a CYV without knowing what/who is on the other side of the wall...so did they.

No different than one choosing to buy on a golf course. They KNOW the risks when they choose to buy/build there.

And in both cases there is usually not a problem unless you happen to draw the radical nut job of the area.

People that smoke stink, they look ridiculous and use up billions in medical resources annually,

BUT

it is legal.
