Everyone has their own interpretation of what constitutes whining. So when you tell others they are whining it only serves as an insult and accomplishes nothing. I thought the threads on "legalization of marijuana" and "doctor assisted suicide" were very whiny because they were pleading for something but nothing was accomplished. Should I have said so? And if I had said so, what would I have accomplished?

really love going to the squares for some music and dancing. my only objections are: market night at lake sumter....the vendor booths should all be set up on the outside of the square, not plopped into the seating areas. there is plenty of sidewalk room for them. also, set up the chairs from the back forward. lots of time there are chairs way into the dancing area, and empty spaces behind them.

A lot of people bring their own chairs. It is empowerment. LOL

We all have our # 1, 2, 3 etc. reasons we were attracted to TV. For us it was the golf and a close second was the climate. Down the list somewhere is the Squares---for us.

Many folks we know went to the Squares more often the first year or two and then it "tapered" off. If everyone went often, you couldn't find a place to dance for sure!

We encountered rude drunks a couple of times around Sumter Landing but it has been an exception and not the rule. We just move on.... As you know, you can't reason with someone who has too much to drink anyway.

We try our best to apply the Golden Rule as much as possible. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.".

Never argue with a drunk, just move on.
1. Don’t take it personally
People are who they are. It’s not because of you
2. Don’t bother reasoning
Rationality in the absence reason is rhetorical quicksand
3. Focus on the outcome
Don’t get sucked into the moment; stay on course
4. Make them the winner
Put what they want on the other side of what you need
5. Remember why you’re there
Rude dollars deposit in the bank just like polite ones

Live music in the squares was one of the big reasons that I moved here as well.
It is so disappointing to see so many disc jockeys and people singing to pre recorded tracks. I hardly ever go to the squares anymore. What a waste. They might as well just stick a drum machine on the gazebo and let the people line dance because that pretty much all it is anyway.
Occasionally, they have a decent live band, but I've seen most of them. They're great, but how many times are you going to see Rocky and the Rollers.

There is still enormous value in the nightly live music at the three town squares, regardless of the recorded tracks some of the live singers sing with.

The live music and dancing in the squares is a reminder every day that there IS a community with three "downtowns" left in the USA that actually has thriving and wanted retail businesses that are actually OPEN after 5pm!

Even more important is that the music and dancing is a reminder that we have a safe place to go out in every night of the year.

We and most people have not had a thriving, safe downtown to which we would go, in decades. Even the malls are unsafe, especially in parking lots.....and who wants to go to the mall and watch roaming packs of kids in their dark, angry look and scary dress intimidating the average decent person there, and shoplifting??

The squares here provide vitality and safety that few or no other communities are willing to cultivate.
