More importantly, I wish a universal signal existed to alert the cops to the dim-wits driving along blabbing on their cell phones. Or a beloved dog in the driver's lap partially blocking the view. Both acts are far more dangerous to the other traffic than someone exceeding the limit by a couple of MPH.

If it is wrong to have a human warning of a speed trap ahead, is it equally wrong for an electronic warning? Some jurisdictions have made use of a radar detector illegal. If you don't oppose those devices to be consistent you wouldn't oppose light flashers, right? By the way, I don't own a radar detector and have never gotten a speeding ticket. So this isn't personal, just curiosity.

With all due respect, it really doesn't matter if drivers think the speed limits are too low. Break the law and risk getting a ticket!
And Jaggy is right about Belvedere, it's like a race track. Some of the "shortcut" streets need more policing.

A friend of mine who was a state trooper said they would stop people who flashed their lights and ask them if something was wrong with their headlights. Then he would ask for license and registration, go back to his car and wait a few minutes, then let the "flasher" go. It wasnt against the law to flash the lights, but if they got caught, their own trip would be delayed...

BTW saw a motorcycle cop this AM on Morse, hidden back in one of the neighborhood entrances. Did I flash to oncoming folks? Nah....

A few days ago my wife was driving into the Winifred Village on a cart path when a person going the other way waved her down and said to be sure to stop at the Stop sign when she went around the circle in the Cul d Sac and went on the normal Winifred Road as a cop was hiding up the street watching cars leaving the Cul d Sac and going on the "regular road within that Village". It was true, the cop was hiding within the Winifred village and looking for anyone not totally stopping at that sign. It was a terrible use of the police as I can promise you there is zero chance of a problem at this remote intersection and they could have been watching for the speeding cars on Buena Vista where the problems really are. It was impossible to understand why they would waste resources while other serious violations are occuring.

For all you people who bash the cops every chance you get, I would like to see a month or two with absolutely NO motor vehicle enforcement whatsoever.

You'd be crying to get them back enforcing the laws again.

I need to visit with my attorney friends and see if this situation can qualify as a basis for harassment? it is this type of behavior that angers people. How can you hold respect for anyone that abuses their authority? This post and the earlier post where a member described a cop in waiting in the Village of Winifred are classic examples of an abuse of power.

I just don`t get it .
People often almost daily post complaints of drivers speeding through the Villages , tailgating , failing to observe Yield and Stop signs and generally being rude .
Often they call for more traffic enforcement . Then when those charged by us attempt to
encourage proper driving by using the only means that histroically works then fellow Villagers take it upon themselves to gleefully thwart the efforts of LE .
BTW it is very unusual for LE to hand out a ticket for driving a couple MPH over the speed-limit . Generally they allow about a 5 MPH margin before they write a citation for speeding .

Of course almost everyone respects and support the Police. It is kind of a poor shot (no pun meant) to try to say you don't support the police if you complain of one of their actions.. That is outrages! What is a problem is when the management misplace their resources or mis use them at the expense of the citizen. In most cases the Unit meets before going out on patrol, are given specific duties, locations, etc. and they get in trouble if they violate what the Supervisors have told them to do. Sitting in Winifred and waiting for someone to not completely stop at an intersetcion within the Village at an intersection that I would challenge if any accidents have ever occured at that location is in my opinion a mis use of the resource. Does that mean I don't respect the Police is a poor attempt to raise an issue that does not exist. I continue to believe a better use of their time would be to assign them to track speeder on Buena Vista, etc.

Buffalo Jim, the LEO here in The Villages and surrounding area will give u a ticket if u are 1mph over the speed limit. I had a neighbor who was doing 36 in a 35 mph zone and was stopped and given a ticket. U gotta watch ur P's and Q's here. My wife was stopped last week because she didn't stop "long enough" at a stop sign. Not that she didn't stop all four wheels from rolling but not the 3 seconds they require. So there is no generally anything here.

To me there is a difference between going over the speed limit and Speeding or traveling at a Reckless speed. Everyone goes over the speed limit from time to time and normally it is not intentional.

I know that in some communities the statement is "at 8 you skate at 9 your mine" both relating to exceeding the speed limits. Sounds reasonable except maybe in school zone areas?
