On O'Dell Circle, going uphill by the rec center, this golf cart with 2 occupants in their 30's passed me at a minimum of 30 mph. I am certified in laser, radar, and vascar, and I can judge speed within 2 mph.
The time is coming to have identifying numbers of some kind, just like on a boat or on a small plate as on a m/c. How else can we stop these lunatics and their hot rod golf carts. There just isn't enough Sheriffs to get the job done. ![]()

Oh brother!!! No turn signals, people on cell phones, rolling stop signs etc... These are much more detrimental to our safety than a golf cart that goes over the 20mph speed limit!!! JMO

I don't believe you will see a consistent heavily blanketed enforcement on speeding golf carts any time soon. Just won't happen and probably never will. Sure, the sheriff's offices are as lucky as the occasional lucky squirrel getting a nut enforcement.

There just isn't enough Sheriffs to get the job done. Response and comment: Yes, the speeders are wild, and when is it going to get controlled? You can only control something if you have standards, if you have enforcement, and penalties, unfortunately, the 12 year old in 70 year old bodies is really out of hand. I could really list some words here about that, but it does not make any difference, because a speed person or a gear head, wants that speed, that noise, that threat of a mangled injury. We are in a retirement community, that should justify some standards and number one should be safety. When an emphasis is on speed, on maximum velocity on roaring around here, there then there will be problems. I know there are persons who do not agree with me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but,,,,,,, we could have ID numbers on the carts, encourage folks to take pictures, encourage the Sheriff to check in once in awhile. Let us all be free to walk, to bike to cart or to drive a car and not have to feel like we are on a speedway. If there is such a desire for speed and unsafe driving, then go to Daytona or another racetrack and do it right for all those thrills and then you will not hurt some older person or someones child. Be safe, slow down here, speed kills. Just 20 MPH is 29 feet per second. Note also a golf cart is designed to be used on a GOLF COURSE moving at maybe 10 mph maximum. It is not a race car. Slow down so every one can enjoy this place. bbbbbb |

While stopped in my car at Ria Grande and Delmar stop sign, a golf cart came flying through without stopping on my right. If someone was crossing from my left there is no way that golf cart would have seen them since my car blocked the view. The golf cart should have merged in with traffic before the stop sign.

As long as the one doing the passing does not create a hazard, eg; cutting another off or almost causing a wreck, why does being passed or seeing a cart exceeding 20 mph...seem to enrage so many people?
![]() I think maybe some self-reflection is in order. ![]() |

If 1,000 cart drivers were guilty of this behavior, it would be less than 1% of TV population.
Since we only hear about the occasional driver, I don't think that's an indictment of The Villages going to he!!. |

Been here six years now. I have seen just about everything re golf carts. The worst and most dangerous is passing another cart or a biker on a curve or hill with no vision of oncoming traffic. I was going up the hill on my bike by the Winn Dixie at Sumter and a young guy with his wife and two children on the back seat passed me on the hill and there was no way he could see what was coming. If another cart hit them head on it is very likely there would have been death or serious injury. Another was a guy making the turn into the Havana tunnel next to the parking lot. He did not see the biker in front of him and slammed on his brakes. The cart flipped onto the driver side. His golf clubs were scattered all over the cart trail. I thought at least he would have a broken collar bone or arm. No, he gathered his clubs, put them back in the bag. We helped him turn his car right side up and he said "I have to go I have a T-time. Unbelievable!

While registration and identification would help with some issues (illegal parking, leaving the scene of an accident, etc), I don't see it helping with speeders. I doesn't work with cars.
