The time is coming to have identifying numbers of some kind, just like on a boat or on a small plate as on a m/c. How else can we stop these lunatics and their hot rod golf carts. There just isn't enough Sheriffs to get the job done.

How does someone get 'certified' in laser, radar and whatever the heck vascar is?

Speak for yourself.

And I have little doubt that even with the highly trained there is the possibility of significant error...especially in such a sudden, uncontrolled situation.

Response and comment:
Yes, the speeders are wild, and when is it going to get controlled? You can only control something if you have standards, if you have enforcement, and penalties, unfortunately, the 12 year old in 70 year old bodies is really out of hand.
I could really list some words here about that, but it does not make any difference, because a speed person or a gear head, wants that speed, that noise, that threat of a mangled injury. We are in a retirement community, that should justify some standards and number one should be safety. When an emphasis is on speed, on maximum velocity on roaring around here, there then there will be problems. I know there are persons who do not agree with me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but,,,,,,,
we could have ID numbers on the carts, encourage folks to take pictures, encourage the Sheriff to check in once in awhile. Let us all be free to walk, to bike to cart or to drive a car and not have to feel like we are on a speedway. If there is such a desire for speed and unsafe driving, then go to Daytona or another racetrack and do it right for all those thrills and then you will not hurt some older person or someones child. Be safe, slow down here, speed kills.
Just 20 MPH is 29 feet per second. Note also a golf cart is designed to be used on a GOLF COURSE moving at maybe 10 mph maximum.
It is not a race car. Slow down so every one can enjoy this place.
bbbbbb
I agree. I mean, c'mon...even our BODIES have an ID number in The Villages--why not golf carts. (Meant to be somewhat humorous, but I do agree with Many b's.)

Please my intent was not to question your veracity but without GPS, radar its difficult to pinpoint speed other than to say the other guy was going faster. In the situation you explain the driver could have been going slower or faster than 30mph.

Some folks just get annoyed and some down right resentful when another vehicle passes them whether its on the road or a MMP.

I only get mad if the overtaking is "unsafe". Again given the heavy traffic both on roads and MMP's there are not many people able to "make their move".

On many roadways they study the traffic patterns , speed of drivers and then make adjustment therein. The majority of drivers on MMP's are sensible people and as such adjust according to their environment in a responsible manner.

Every time this subject comes up it amounts to "that driver" (singular) but expands into a crisis on the MMP's ??????????

I just don't get why some people take great umbrage when they get passed by a golf cart doing 21-23 mph...while they're doing 19.9 mph.

And once again, I'm only referencing the basic speed issue...not any other unsafe actions that may occur (even at 15 mph).

To me, and it's just my opinion, it's analogous to people who are more concerned about being killed by some radical religious nutcase...than by a drunk driver.

Even if they're 50 times more likely to be a victim of the latter...than the former.

It's just simply not logical to me.
Exactly. Some people just have nothing better to do than find things to worry about. I passed a golf cart that was going all of 15mph. The driver yelled at me "what's your hurry!"
I chuckled as I thought to myself, "I wonder which TOTV poster that is and why he thinks it's any of his business."
If you worry about yourself, you'll have your hands full.

Do you really think hitting a curb at 19.9 or 20.3 mph would be any better?
I think if you hit a curb going 20 mph in your cart, you're going to flipped onto your side. And the possibility of injury is high.

I have found folks that want to show the speeders a thing or two by hogging lanes at 17mph or speeding up when folks try to pass them to be a much bigger threat.
I agree. I look for a spot with a clear, long view, pull over, slow to 5 mph, signal them to pass, and wave. Except for one instance, they wave back.

You apparently didn’t understand what I wrote.
I said if you hit a curb at 19.9 or 20.3 mph the
possibility of injury is still high.
So maybe using caution and good sense at any speed is in order!
IMHO I think there are a few cart drivers in TV,
that are careless or incapable at 15mph!

Yes, and and as you pass him at 17.5mph he is thinking to himself, "well that guy is going like a son of gun", goes home gets on TOTV and writes "speeding golf cart"... "lock him up"

I think they get a circuit board implant which gives them,
the special ability to determine speed accurately
without a radar gun!

I see cars going 40 in a 35. And cars going 75 in a 70. When we were visiting sometimes I would just poke along at maybe 10 or 15 mile an hour and I was amazed how many people were upset I was going too slow. And the cart we had would go 20.5 (over the limit) downhill if I was wide open. While I can agree that slow carts or carts going too fast are frustrating. I also see the same thing with automobiles. I'm not sure there's an easy fix. maybe just common sense.
