Okay let's list some of the more recent stupid things that you have seen in TV that are above and beyond the normal. We has all seen the under age golf cart drivers or the person that accidental drove there car onto the cart path but I am looking at things that go beyond this.
Here is my list of three that I witnessed in the past few days. No need to add comments good or bad. #1. Under age golf cart driver. I know the first one is against the object of this thread but this one deserves to be listed. Driving past Palmer and the drive going into Palmer I see a boy looking to be 11 or 12 driving a golf cart with grand pa riding shotgun. Now that is not unusual at this time of the year but what get grand pa extra credit in the stupidity award category is the kid is also talking on his cell phone. Way to go grand pa teach the kid the correct way to do things. #2. In a hurry to get around and rules of the road don't apply to me. Following a guy in a cart heading down the path from Bonita to Havana next to Morse. I look in the rear view mirror and see no one. I drive a few hundred feet and now see a lady closing on me fast. Where did she come from? She passes me but does not pull in between us. She continues to try to pass the guy as we are approaching the right turn in front of Havana. All I can think of is I hope now one is coming the other way as the surly will be a head on crash. At about half way around the turn she finely relents and backs off and cuts in front of me with a sharp jerk of the steering wheel. She is livid in that she could not get past the guy and he was doing nothing wrong. Next she blows the stop at the Odell / Havana gate and continues to violate and driving rules known to mankind. #3. Jogging on 466a. Another one to take the cake is Saturday morning at about 10:30 I am driving west on 466a and come upon a jogger running on the right side of the road. I think to myself why doesn't this guy use the cart path instead of the road? This guy is running with his back to oncoming traffic to make matters worse. I know there was a thread earlier in the year regarding joggers and why they run on asphalt and not concrete but this guy was only using the concrete. Another one to make you wonder. Okay time to add your stupid sitings. VG |

Just today my wife and I were in the car heading to Spanish Springs to see the new Tom Cruise movie. We were on Rio Grande coming up to the 4 way stop at Del Mar. There was a golf cart in front of us. He stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to go straight, but when he was almost all the way through the intersection he realized that he wanted to turn on Del Mar so he quickly jerked the wheel to the left. In the meantime, the car that was stopped at the Stop sign heading the other way on Rio Grande saw that he was going straight and proceeded through the stop sign. When the golf cart suddenly swerved left, the car slammed on its brakes and just missed wiping out the golf cart.

Bikers who think that just because they can fit through the gate without the gate having to go up zoom through at top speed oblivious to the fact that carts crossing can not see them coming.

Today I saw a car heading north on Morse come out of the bypass around Sumter and do a u-turn back onto the northbound lane of Morse heading south! The car behind him laid on the horn to try to alert him to no avail.
When he got to the rotary he went backwards (counterclockwise) around the rotary! He was out of my sight after that and thankfully I never heard any crash. Be careful out there. |

It seems to me there is a lot more traffic than usual this time of year. Trying to find a parking place anywhere near LSL recently is frustrating to say the least. Everyone needs to be extra careful now because there are those who don't understand our road system and those (as mentioned above) who don't care.

Just wait til after the 1st...when more snowbirds will be here and renters. The traffic will be denser, new people will be here....we'll ALL need to be vigilant while out and about!!

I just don't comprehend how people can still not use the roundabouts correctly. Every time I am out there I see cars going 3/4 the way around in the outside lane. Can't they see the new signs posted before every roundabout? Why is this so difficult for them? They work so well if used correctly and yet there seems to be those who refuse to do it.

hey, hey, hey ......our LSV was in mid December, and if I recall correctly the last major roundabout thread occurred a couple of weeks before that. I thought I had read that the topic usually pops up about once a month......so isn't this due, right on time?? LOL
During our visit we had absolutely no problems navigating the roundabouts, since thanks to everyone here on TOTV I had had plenty of instruction regarding their proper use. And interestingly enough, the ONLY driver we saw who really broke the rules (changing lanes within the roundabout)...was our sales agent! (He said he had never looked at TOTV so hopefully he won't read my comment here about his rambunctious roundabout driving). But now back to the original topic: I can honestly say we have absolutely no stupid things to report from our 5 day LSV. Having never visited before we weren't exactly sure what to expect, given the known TV demographics combined with lots of comments we had read on here. We were prepared for something between bumper cars & complete NYC style gridlock, but everywhere we ventured everyone seemed to know & abide by the rules of the road & traffic moved smoothly. Perhaps we were just lucky? All I can say is, we can't wait to come back!

Let's try to think good thoughts. We all know that TV is not perfect but it is darn close. It's easy to find things to complain about, we don't need a thread that invites complaints. If you want to vent then try beating the heck out of a little white ball or go downtown and dance away your frustrations. Start the new year off right with positive thoughts.

Yes, they came down earlier this year. It all ( stupidity) started sooner.
