Default Thank you to the couple from Pennecamp that didn't show up

I would like to "Thank" the couple from Pennecamp that told me that they would be right over to look at a piece of furniture that we have for sale, that never showed up. I saw them look at the house number on our "Manufacture Home" from their car and they decided that we must be "Trailer Trash", turned their car around in the driveway, and drove off. Did not even call to cancel their appointment. I held up dinner for 2 hours.

Just to set the record straight, we are highly educated people (Princeton Univ, Univ. of Michigan for Masters Degreee, 40 yr. career in higher management at IBM, and we live in a million dollar house in California) and we could hardly be considered "Trailer Trash".

This happens to be our 2nd home that we use for 2 months a year to visit our relatives here. So, these people assumed alot when they stood us up. How would they feel if someone treated them the same way.

Also, this historic side was good enough for the founder of the Villages, Harold Schwartz, who lived on this side of the tracks!

Unfortunately even in TV there are those type of people. Sad but true.

Maybe just maybe,

1. They got a phone call and had to leave ASAP...

2. Hubby says at the last minute " ok honey, we'll just buy ya a new one"

3. My heart is hurting, please take me to urgent care....

Lots of reasons...just sayin

Making appointments to see items for sale and not showing up is not limited to people in TV.. I have experienced this same thing while selling items on ebay, craigs list, and local ads. Lack of courtesy to cancel appointment goes with the turf. I view these instances as a lost opportunity for them to buy not as a lost opportunity for you to sell..There are other buyers out there..

I agree, just cause people call give you time don't mean they are going to show up. I tell them a time I will be here with hour. I don't wait or hold off anything I got planned cause been brunt too many times. Just way things go. Some times it pays off, some times it don't, and some times you wish they never would of showed up?

I understand you are upset, so much so that you are contradicting yourself here. That you held up your dinner for two hours (I hope that was before you saw them, rather than after they drove off) was really your own choice, although an unhappy one.
If they did indeed not like the look of your place, oh well. That is something one can have no way of knowing for certain and it really doesn't matter in terms of creating your own happiness, anyway.

Best to move to your next alternative and let your mind clear of this stuff.
We have had frustrations in selling used items in the past as well.

I was not contradicting myself. They said they were coming right over....I waited for 2 hours because I didn't want to be in the middle of dinner and cleaning up. I saw them drive by looking at the house numbers, they slowed down, looked at our house number, turned around in the driveway and drove off. Most people have cell phones now and they could have done the polite thing and called, or could have called when they got home.

You all are missing the point. These people made assumptions about the type of house we live in and what kind of people we are. I don't care about a late dinner or selling the chair. That is besides the point - just part of the story.

I published this complaint because I want this couple to read this and know how totally rude, insulting and prejudice they are, in hopes that they don't do it again to another person.

I would have thought of ten thousand other things before I came to that conclusion. Sudden illness or bathroom emergency or phone call or forgot their wallet or purse. They should have called but many aren't real polite about those things......... but I would NEVER think that they felt superior to my neighborhood and home. NEVER think that. Who in the world would????? I don't know anyone who would.

It seems like you're the one making the assumption.

dae: you are correct and I support your right to exercise a complaint. I hope the people who called you are members of TOTV. It appears to have been elitist, and it definitely was rude judgmental and unfair. People who carry this air of superority in my view miss much in life.

Thank you. I really think most people in the villages are wonderful, friendly, considerate people....so I guess I am being thin skinned to think that these people were rude and insulting.

No certainly not. You were only annoyed. I think they stood you up but didn't think those things you thought they thought.
