Did not even call to cancel their appointment. I held up dinner for 2 hours.

Just to set the record straight, we are highly educated people (Princeton Univ, Univ. of Michigan for Masters Degreee, 40 yr. career in higher management at IBM, and we live in a million dollar house in California) and we could hardly be considered "Trailer Trash".

This happens to be our 2nd home that we use for 2 months a year to visit our relatives here. So, these people assumed alot when they stood us up. How would they feel if someone treated them the same way.

Also, this historic side was good enough for the founder of the Villages, Harold Schwartz, who lived on this side of the tracks!
Read the above, slowly. Now do you see why it got the response that it did?

IMHO the OP is probably right - they pulled up, didn't like the looks of things, and left. I can't imagine why everyone thinks this to be so bizarre. People make judgement calls of each other everyday eventhough we all learned not to judge a book by its cover.

And yes they were rude for not calling, but that is not suprising if they in fact made a snap judgement that they didn't want to buy from the OP probably thinking they weren't worthy of a cancellation call.

Sorry to paint such an ugly picture, but it's a reality in my mind. So you probably think I'm as crazy as the OP?!?!?!?!

I must say that if that was someones feelings, then they wouldn't have driven all the way over. I have lived here 13 years. i also have to say that I have never heard anyone say anything about people who live on the other side. I think most of us are grown up enough that we know everyone spends their money different.

Sad that you would refer to your home as trailer trash, don't ever let someones actions affect the way you think of yourself, I'm sure you worked hard for what you have

i only did that to one couple from silver lake and it was not due to where they live, it was a couple who we were paired with, he thought he was a pro and the wife suggested that i was playing with mens pings and she was not going to play with someone who was not going to be able to hit a ball...he hit, she hit, husband out drove him, and i took my mens three wood to the mens tee out drove him and her, and then we went on our merry way...hope this was not you gocubsgo

Was the chair a POS, sitting out in your yard?
Was it over priced?

I can certainly appreciate that the OP was angry at being stood-up. I can also appreciate the assumption that the folks in the turning car/golf cart in her driveway were leaving because they didn't like what they saw.

All that said, I would like to tell the OP this...venting is fine, but if you want to vent, think 5 times before posting it on TOTV. While you may find some posts sympathetic to you, more likely than not you'll find posters ready to jump down your proverbial throat. Just a caution...

I have no idea whether Dale was right in his assumptions, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was. I've heard the historic side called the "trailer park" side, the "dinosaurs", the "poor side". People's perceptions of manufactured homes is not always pretty and is frequently very wrong.

Whether the couple who turned around in the driveway were the potential purchasers or not, it was very rude of them to not call and apologize for not showing up. Hope they have the grace to do at least send you a PM.

Bonny: Very good and reasonable conclusion.

Those might not have been the people who said they were coming to look at the stuff for sale!! It could have been a different couple, looking for a house listed for sale in the newspaper and were looking at house numbers for that reason. Maybe they had to turn around because they didn't find a different house they were looking for!

Besides that, who gives a rip if somebody doesn't like "manufactured" homes? If the owners and neighbors like them, that's all that matters!!

I hsve no idea if your assumption as any merit, but there are always going to be snobs no matter where you live. We even have a club south of 466 that excludes any Villagers north of 466 from joining.
