Default Parking near junctions

Grateful if someone would direct me to a source for the local law on parking in the street.

Our road abuts a more major residential street and contractors are continually parking very near the end of our road, causing a dangerous blind spot for those wishing to enter or leave our road.

Some jurisdictions forbid parking within 25 yards of a junction, but I don't know if there is a similar rule in Sumter County.

Thank you

This happens on just about every corder, a lot of times they have no choice such as installing heavy windows in a corner house or installing driveway pavers, things like that. Even mowers at times have nowhere else to park. I doubt that they would get anything but a warning or asked to move them as soon as they can if you called the law.

What you really want and need is one of these signs. It would help if you provided the county you are located and if you're in Wildwood, Lady Lake or Fruitland Park limits. That's were you want to lodge your complaint.

The Villages Florida

I saw a similar situation on the 466A when the Burger King, Taco Bell and Wendys opened in Trailwinds Village. Drivers were exiting Trailwinds and all exits head west on 466A toward Wildwood and then many make a U Turn at the next intersection. There was no turn lane and it created a backup with cars proceeding at about 50 mph. It was an accident waiting to happen. I emailed the City of Wildwood since I see their police cars patrol that area. I received a phone call about a week later from someone at city hall and a NO U Turn sign was erected at that intersection a short time later.

The correct way to exit Trailwinds Village, which now includes a new Publix, is to go to the red light which has two left turn lanes and enter 466A that way. Ironically a couple of months ago I was sitting at the red light and saw a car going west on 466A stop and make a U Turn, a County Deputy a few cars back whipped around and stopped the car. So if you're in Wildwood area of TV, this website will help.

Other than stop signs, are there parking restriction signs on The Villages residential streets? I don't believe there are any south of 44 but not sure of the northern villages.

If we have contractors and they are too close to the corner we ask them to move. They aren't happy but they comply

Thank you, Robbie0723

I see in the statutes:

(1) (a) 3. Within an intersection

and

(1) (b) 3. Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection

but does it need to be a marked crosswalk?

I was rather hoping that, if there is a law against it, The Villages patrols would move them along as it is a safety issue.

Best way to know is a call to you local law enforcement at their non-emergency number.

Whoa! Let's not get carried away, joelfmi :-)

While one does have to take extra care if someone is parked near it, that does not negate the many benefits of living in this location.

I just don't think people should cause danger to others, which is one reason we have laws.

Gripe, gripe, gripe. Most residents of the villages all want their work done, house cleaned, yards cut for them, window cleaners to clean the windows for them etc, etc. But then complain about people trying to park to do their jobs. Believe me from experience we do not like having our vehicles parked beside the street all the time. Mine has been hit, scraped and rammed with a golf cart more than I care to say. To the point that I had to go buy a dash cam so the next golf cart that hits my truck will pay for it. However the homeowners do need to be able to enter and exit the garage as needed. So if the villagers want to buy a house in the villages and have their work done for them then they just have to deal with people parking beside their house to do their job! Yeah yeah yeah I’m sure a lot on here will not like what I had to post but that’s just it I really don’t care. I am one of those people that park beside the street to do my job. At least I am there every day working hard to earn my money and not sitting here on my butt collecting unemployment for you and every other taxpayer to pay for. Food for thought.

You really need to read a post before you rant against it, Mr. Farris.

We have people parking outside our home, working on other homes, and understand that they need to be there. It does not worry us. What DOES concern us, as is clear from my original post, is parking dangerously near a junction, blocking sight-lines for other road users.

Please just park thoughtfully, Mr. Farris, then we shall all be happy. And safe. You may even find your vehicle gets hit less often if you park it somewhere sensible.
