A 1000 seat auditorium cannot attract and support big name or even some lesser known programs and do it at prices that will make the masses happy. This was much of the discussion when the origional plans were floated about a community owned performing arts center. Historic theatres in small towns accross the country have suffered from this problem for manny years since they were converted from essentially movie theatres.The only way to ower prices is by the way of sponsors for shows at $25000 and up for the lead sponsor or a public or private subsidy. In this case the developer has paid all capital costs ($millions) and I suspect has decided not to operate by subsidizing shows. The community was not willing to assume all costs and take the risks so the ticket prices will be relatively high. As always" The is no such thimg as a free lunch" In any case I am happy that we have a beautiful facility . I can almost guarantee that after considering( all in) costs. there will be No profit from the operation of the Sharon.

I just find it amazing Willie Nelson commands 100 to 200k.
You know why he gets that? Because people will pay it. He's 82 and not Tony Bennett. He can hardly keep his head up.

Remember when you were a kid and your dad could take you to see the Yankees or your local professional team without getting a loan? That's because Micky and Yogi weren't making all that much.

Gatherer, I wasn't referring to you with the quoted statement above, but rather it applies to those who would not give credit where credit is due to the developers under ANY circumstances, purely due to partisan hatred of them which eventually shows up as the reason for every b*tch session about The Sharon, Katie Belle's remodeling, repurposing of the "Church" on The Square, the cross still atop of the Sharon, the closure and reopening of Orange Blossom Hills CC restaurant/bar…..All were attributed to "greed" by the "evil white RICH developer" "who cares nothing about The Little Guy". It gets really old.

They're sell outs because it's a 1,000 seat venue. I've said several times from the beginning that this venue is too small and in the wrong place. They could dsell out a 5,000 seat venue with tickets at half the price for some of these acts that are coming into town. They might have also been able to attract some bigger names like James Taylor, Elton John, Ringo and several others with a decent sized facility.

I believe that The Savannah Center is described as a Regional Recreation Center by The Villages Recreation Department and it has been so labeled since it opened.

Lots of variables though. Prices could vary depending on the day/night of the week (likely cheaper on a weekday afternoon than a Saturday night), other gigs within moderate travel distance (if they come from California just for your show you're stuck with airfare), do you supply back up band, lodging, etc.
25 years ago we got Little Anthony for $6,000 for a free outdoor concert in Miami Beach. Easy money. It rained and he never had to leave his hotel.

I never heard of most of the bands listed.

I would rather pay a higher price and have a smaller venue. We had a 1300 seat venue in PA and Elton John was one of many that showed up. In smaller venues the connection with the audience/artist is closer. The larger venues are cheaper but the best you can say is you were in the same building....and your best chance of seeing the artist is with binoculars. I'm sure you have been to Broadway shows and all of those theaters are smaller venues. I'm sure you have been to Vegas and most of those venues are smaller as well.....Caesars excluded. It's always a personal choice but if it's an artist you want to see the day tickets go on sale is known and you can get at seat. If it's price that drives you then your selections and opportunities will be limited.....but that is your choice.
