You are only as old as you allow yourself to be. I was 72 and my wife was 76 when we moved here last year. The active lifestyle in The Villages should add a few extra years to our life. You are never too old to do something that you want to do!

Don't buy in the new sections south of 44. The TV sales people are steering all people younger than 60 down there (I know because I have several friends who only used TV and they were specifically told they would be out of place north of 466A (they now wish they'd done their homework). I also have 3 friends who were steered to the new sections (Villages realtors get paid much more for selling new than preowned) and waited the year they were forced not to sell for a profit, then moved more north.
If you are over 70, you won't find many in your age group down there.

We live way south in Monarch Grove and there are a good number of people in their 70's, myself included. With all of the construction activity that is now going on, we will have just as many amenities as any other area of The Villages.

We bought in Bradford back in November. We love it down here. Our friends in the Villages that are older moved down here before we did! My next door neighbor is in his 80’s and just bought a new bike to ride in the Preserve. Great area!

At 74, there may be some sports that don’t interest you much, but there are still plenty you might enjoy. There are lots of groups to try out and join if you like them. This is the easiest place to make friends that I’ve ever seen, but you have to be friendly to make friends. It’s entirely possible to keep to yourself and be lonely and alone in your neighborhood. It’s up to you. It’s also possible to walk the dog or go for neighborhood walks and greet lots of people and perhaps know there names, yet do no socializing with anyone. It’s all up to you. It’s also possible to go to some club and know everyone’s name, yet never see them outside the club and not really know them. It takes effort, but it can be fun. ( I’m talking to myself here.)

I bought a lovely home fully furnished (much better furnished than where I came from) just north of 466 and not far from Morse Blvd. It’s close to halfway between Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter Landing. I can be at either town square in about ten minutes. It’s about ten minutes by car from nearly every recreation center where I have meetings and from most of the places where I shop. I love my home and love my neighborhood and area. I have one weekly meeting at Aviary Recreation Center, all the way south, and that takes about 25 minutes by car! If I lived way down there, it would be much farther to the places I shop, like Sam’s Club, Total Wine, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, or my favorite restaurants. In a golf cart, I’d have to double that time.

I used to live in a 200 year old log cabin, and my girlfriend lives in a 250 year old stone home, so my current 22 year old home in The Villages in excellent repair with perfect gardening done by someone else doesn’t seem “old” to me. I don’t get the desire folks have to keep buying “new” homes, but they can if they want to. Maybe it’s like the old days when the early settlers kept moving west as things got crowded.

You’re not too old to move to and take advantage of the Villages!! You will find some people who have an opinion regarding the new areas versus an established, pre-owned area. That’ll be your decision, all ages live everywhere. Come visit and check out both. Plenty of positives to each area. The main thing is just get here! Start your enjoyment!!

Agreed. And I find people are so friendly up in Orange Blossom. Waving at people is normal here, I find a little less so further south. And BTW age is just a number, one of my best friends is 95 and is 'younger' than I am.

Look around and find a Village that feels like home and then make it home.
