Sorry, but unless those trash pickup people are authorized, they aren't allowed to control traffic. If they attempt to stop traffic, and there's an accident, they are responsible. IMHO, no person unless they are police or official "traffic controlers" (construction sites) is authorized to stop traffic.

Multiple recycling bins with paper/cardboard in one bin, metals in another, plastics in a third, all required to be CLEANED before placing them in the bins. Compost bins in every back yard for scrap food, and anything that isn't compostable (such as kitty litter and pizza boxes) being the only things that end up in the actual trash. Pretty sure a community of seniors isn't interested in doing all that work. But many modern 21st Century communities do this. |

- I don’t consider our current trash pick up a shambles (whatever that is) - centralized dumpsters will create traffic issues, not to mention who will be responsible for keeping that area clean. - a large 50 gallon bin in the garage,,,,,what would one do when this large bin is full, who are these “normal people” - adding sheds is just crap, and would require a change to deed restrictions. - none of these suggestions are sensible

It’s a pretty crazy practice. I’m
guessing that it is an OSHA mandate. Crossing to the other side makes sense to me but it could increase the risk of the trash man getting hit by a car coming from the opposite side. That’s the only thing that makes any sense to me. With the price of gas it makes you wonder |

“Back in the day” we owned a house that had a trash shed close to the yard and a long, wide driveway. The trash was picked up by 2 men in a dump truck. They would take the trash can out of the trash shed, empty it and then return the empty can to the shed. Those were the days.
