Default Tribute This and Tribute That

I hate tribute performance's when people sing and mimic past entertainers either as a group or single.
You know who they are by knowing their passing years ago.

Yes, I realize the great ones are gone, and let them lye in piece.

Being older and hearing the original recordings all my life and attending expensive live performances by the pretenders just don't cut with me.

I guess as a kid, I attended to many great original concerts from the great ones.

Your Thoughts Please

Disagree. I'm not likely to go and see The Stones or Alice Cooper or too many other live concerts as they cost WAYYY too much money these days. I enjoy live music, so hearing someone else play Neil Diamond's songs as opposed to hearing them on an old recording is preferred.

Same as I prefer driving a remake of an old car (new Mustangs, Bronco's etc.) as opposed to just watching old original ones being driven on television or in movies.

I can understanding what you are saying especially when you see a terrible tribute band. We did see a great Chicago tribute band that could have been the real thing. Then we saw an actual band in their older age and a tribute band might have been better. Growing up I actually only went to 2 concerts so it has been the radio for the most part for me.

I'd much rather hear a tribute band perform great music the way it was recorded than listen to some party band butcher it into muzak.

I don't need them to dress up in some cheap imitation of a 70's rock star. Just play the music right, and don't attempt Aerosmith if you don't have the vocal cords to do Stephen Tyler for two hours. Heck, I hate it when an original artist butchers his own work on stage. The worst concert I ever paid good money for was Stephen Stills sloppy drunk on a stage in Tulsa in the 80's. One of the best was "Beatlemania", the original Beatles tribute band, in the same period.

Unlike previous generations, our music is much more than just notes you can put on a page for any fool to play. It needs to be done right.

So many tribute bands. But who needs one when the actual band or individual is still performing.

I'd rather see a tribute band, than pay mega-bucks to see a band that isn't the original, but has links to the original, and has no original players left in it or only one player left who was part of the third incarnation of the original.

Like when Jefferson Airplane turned into Jefferson Starship which turned into Starship which splintered into two new groups, one of which is Jefferson Starship and the other is just Starship. Although my sister is good friends with the keyboard player - it's still not the same. There's no Marty Balin (RIP), Kantner, Casady, Chaquico, Aguilar, Jorma Kaukonen, or Grace Slick. They're not a "tribute" band. They're a descendant of a descendant of a descendant of a descendant of the original. A well-diluted derivative. They're a good band, but it's like sucking on lemons to call them Jefferson Airplane.

Depends on whether the original can still sing as well as they did many years before

Zero desire to be in a theater anymore, but in general, I don't mind listening to fave songs done by others.

Just saw a Tom Petty Tribute band who were pretty good and accurate to the records - so is the point is I should not waste my time paying money for that??? Since Tom is currently pushing up daisies it would be difficult to watch him - technically 4 out 5 band members are still out there - maybe I'll wait till they get a replacement lead man.

We have seen several Tribute Bands in the Villages. Most are very good but you can’t bring back the original

We like tribute bands especially if they are good. Brings back memories. If you ever get to see Brit Floyd do it they are perfect and their light show better than the original because of new technology.

I was at the Eagles tribute concert last year and thought it was excellent. It brought back lots of memories. A decade ago I went to the Beatles tribute concert called Rain, and it was amazing. Some bands are much better at it than others.

The Villages own Beatles tribute band, Beatlemaniacs, is great fun.

A couple of years ago, I saw a guy who did a pretty good tribute to John Denver. What I found interesting is that the ticket cost for the tribute act exceeded the cost of tickets to actually seeing John Denver live. Inflation is alive and well.

Problem is the cover bands down here are so damn expensive. Most are no way worth what Villages Entertainment charges.
