Remember the penny trick--freeze a cup filled with water , after the water turns to ice, place a penny on top of the ice--if we must leave or there is a prolonged power outage--if the penny is on the bottom of the cup--throw out everything that required refrigeration or freezing

I'm not so worried about physical danger, but being without power for 3 days with Irma was not something I'd choose to do again if I have a choice.

Thanks.
No power here last year for almost a week with Irma (Country Club Hills) and I am dreading a repeat. We might just grab a hotel for a few nights.

Happy to hear that the hurricane will be downgraded as my home (2007) is built to withstand sustained winds to about 116 mph. In the historic region, my parents owned a manufactured home as a seasonal, and in 15 years they replaced the roof once because a tree fell on it.
If your incapable of securing your yard items and your north of 466 please feel free to give me a call and I’ll do my best to come by and get it done. I’m a full time De La Vista resident and have a little extra time. I’m doing this FREE it’s my way of giving back.

Our roof in the historic region is new (in the last 5 years) but there's a super-tall tree right behind the house on our property. The branches overhang the roof, it's very close to the house. I worry about branches damaging the roof or knocking out windows in the winds, but not so much the tree falling on the house.

I'm very glad that I'm in the north right now. I'd hate to be down there with no air conditioning, no power, and flooding at the bottom of the hill (which is the way out of our section).

I think if I was down there I'd probably just drive north for a couple of hours on Sunday, and hole up in a hotel til I knew it was safe to return.

As it stands, I doubt the winds will be bad enough to blow roofs off buildings in the Villages. But they might be bad enough to cause damage from branches and lawn chairs and other things that aren't secured.

I keep being amazed at the great people who live in TV, it’s like we got the best of the best.

In my case Empty Nest looks after the home when I’m not there and they have already emailed me saying they have secured items around the property and will be checking in after the storm. And Village Insurance has sent me 2 mails about how they can help if there are any damages from the storm.

There is not another place I’ve been where people are so considerate.

Everything will be fine unless and until you see Jim Cantore reporting live from anywhere near you

Looks like we may have more to fear from too much rain than anything else.

Its not the Storm that I worry about (I'm set with the needs), its the Power Company that kept us without electric 5 solid days last year!!!

Well, what I want to know is which one of you has all the negative karma that is sucking that storm right down on top of the rest of us!

Yikes! If this really does occur this way (as the path shows on each day thru next Sunday) this could very well become the worst hurricane ever to encounter the USA east coast...esp rains.
