Herv, as they say "shake the dust from your feet and move on" (actually THEY don't say it, I think I just made it up )...anyway, don't waste one moment of your life worrying about some person that doesn't deserve to take up one minute! Concentrate instead on all of the great people you have met and will meet.

I agree with Trish. Don't let them take up real estate in your mind.

I suppose people who live here year-round, and compare it to summer and fall, find it somewhat troubling, but in our frame of reference it was all good. As for the original question, whether it was all we expected, yes and so much more. Who could anticipate a place quite like this? I don't think anyone has previously seen or experienced anything like TV, and so would be hard-pressed to envision all that is here. I often ask people who are experiencing TV for the first time what their impressions are and most respond with some variation of "unbelieveable". As often happens, when people ask me to tell them about The Villages, my response is usually - "you have to experience it, I can't adequately describe it." The Villages aren't perfect, but like the old saying, they are way better than wherever is in second place.
I like that, Oldcoach. Very nice.

They forgot the SQUISH part, I call it squish but some would say squeeze. There's a novel idea, let the bikers drink and not even get off their motorcycles.

TV is all that we expected and MORE. We wake up every day and marvel that this place is all real and we are not dreaming!

We're here full time except for a few weeks in summer.

I must say.....I think it's really crappy when some (usually older Frogs) b*tch and moan about the snowbirds, renters, etc.

There is nobody here who's not paying their way to live here and partake of the lifestyle, recreation and entertainment. So please stop treating seasonal people like freeloaders or intruders.

Life's too short to be fighting over the small stuff. We have dozens of CYV neighbors who would give us the shirt off their back and come running for any little need or request we've made or might need to make one day. Most of them are the "salt of the earth", and seasonal people are included in those ranks. Neighbors are neighbors, regardless of whether they own, rent, or are seasonal.

We love it here and we love the people!!!!

Default IS TV all you thought it would be?

I think that our geographic origins and the way we were taught to expect or do certain things in certain situations plays a big role.

We easily begin new friendships here or expect friendly behavior from those we've just met and are "put off" by their "strange" responses. One new neighbor on the golf course said I was "fresh". (I had a dickens of a time finding out what "fresh" meant. It isn't a term used in Ohio. Someone bristled over my "Boy Howdy" which simply means "well, I'll be darned" to me and I thought everybody spoke Ohioese.

Midwesterners expect certain things that cause those from the coasts to think we are a little strange. People from certain area's use silence as soft disapproval where other areas HAVE TO HAVE the last word.

On top of this are the internet bullies, the newly affluent, the sick, the tired, the fiesty, the arrogant and the truly kind....all who have been that way for awhile or are trying out new personas.

There are a lot of "fresh starts" here and some invent their pasts to present to others.

In other words, we are older Americans most of us and we are thrown together in a new experience that really is making history on this planet.

I like that about this place and I hate that about this place. Sometimes I long for the way people acted pretty much the same back home.

But considering all that do I love it? You bet your sweet bippy I do.
Nicely said---except for the last sentence! For all of these reasons--I DO NOT LIKE IT HERE...and am looking to sell my home and move out of central FL. I don't seem to meet "authentic" people---meeting people who seem to live a life of "activity", "eating", "drinking"...rather than wanting to share ideas--work on "causes" or help the needy. Also a lot of lying going on---people inventing their pasts to present to others. THAT really bothers me....but, I seem to be in the minority here. The Villages is much more conservative than I thought it would be---I understand that FL is a conservative State (for the most part)...but, I didn't think I'd have to listen to neighbors using the "N" word or calling the President of the US a Muslim (as if that is a dirty word). Actually, I am taken aback at all of the hatred spewed under the guise of "conservatism"...here in The Villages. I have only been here for five years---thinking it would get better as more baby boomers moved into the area---but, it has not.

JMHO.

Goodness, who the heck do you hang out with???

Oh, I have no doubt you've met people you've described and honestly, I've met some like that, too....but I encountered more like that in places other than here. Sorry you've had such a negative experience. Good luck on your newest and upcoming adventure.
