LOL on all the folks complaining about traffic. Try living in any big city (SF, LA, NYC, Chicago, Atlanta) for a few weeks. The traffic here is a dream, even in the winter.

20 years in TV full time after 8 years in South Florida. Grew up in the Northeast and will never go back up North, not even to visit and the relatives that matter are all in the greater Orlando area.
Have never acclimated to the heat, so just stay indoors all summer. I had several heat exhaustion incidents while in the service so I overheat very easily.
The reason I will never leave Florida is because it has the best Veterans' benefits of all the neighboring states. However, I have formulated my exit plan from TV. Depending on circumstances, it could be 1 year or it could be 10 or more, but I will be ready.

All I can tell you folks is that I've been gone for 3 months and I am eagerly anticipating my return.

So your saying you'll be there on the day the will is read.

Agree - it’s all relative - even during the height of snowbird season, traffic and parking here is no problem.

Well then kudo's to the criminal media-They've got me convinced it's hotter this year. And I thought I wasn't one of the weak minded ones. Happy to get convinced it's all a subversive mind control plot-but for right now, those beads of sweat all over me every time I walk out the door sure do feel real.

We decided that we will do whatever it takes to enjoy these so called Golden Years.

We made so many friends in Florida over the years that are sadly gone now.
Could of..Should of...Would of...is no longer in my vocabulary.

I wish you and your wife much comfort and pleasant memories only 😊
We are from the Lacrosse WI area in the bluffs on the Mississippi River and worry if we sell and go full time in TV next year that we might miss all of the things you mentioned.

Decisions...decisions

Do you have a need to sell immediately, if not keep your home for a year or two until you are sure of where you want to be. So many people sell their homes and cannot afford to buy back in.

My parents spent most of their retirement years snowbirding between Cincinnati and Bonita Beach. It became my model for how I wanted to spend my retirement years.
As my first snowbirding winter approached I was unprepared for the "separation anxiety" that I felt as I prepared to leave my lake home for months. Then of course I go through it again as I prepare to leave my Villages home in the Spring. I feel a sense of envy for those who just stick around all summer and don't disrupt their lives like that. Many of my friends who do stick around all year tell me they envy us because we escape the summer heat.

This will be our 6th year of doing this and while it gets easier, I still feel some anxiety about it. However, like you suggest, I would just miss, too much, this place and this life up here were I to not come back.

Were I having this conversation with my dad, I could hear his voice telling me "Well, Sport, if that's the biggest problem you have, you are living a very charmed life."..I mean I can really hear him say that...and of course, he's right. Even thought he's been gone from this earth for a decade, he's still right about that.
