$2k is what places like CarMax and Auto Nation are paying for quality used cars. Then they sell them for 3x or higher prices.

I don’t think you can buy a “reliable” used car for under $5k these days, if not higher.

Dont people still sell their cars privately for a great price ?
An acquaintance of mine just picked up a decent BMW Z3 convertible for $1500. Needed a little works but it runs great.

The deals are out there - gotta know where to look and gotta know cars.

Cars under 2000 dollars are more trouble and repair than you may want, in todays market 5000 dollars should buy a useable car, probably high mileage although with any normal service record should not be a problem. Always take a knowledge auto person to evaluate.

I don’t think it’s silly. It’s just a matter of luck and being in the right place at the right time. My neighbor knocked on the door of another neighbor who had been ill. His car, a ‘06 Crown Vic with 22k original miles had sat for a year in his driveway. He needed to get a car more suitable for his back/hip condition. He told him the Ford dealer was only going to give him 3K on a trade in. So rather than give in to the dealers insulting offer, he sold it to my neighbor for 3K. Beautiful car, maintained and limited mileage. Is that rare, sure....but it happens to those that are willing to get out there and ask around

Auto Trader has 10 vehicles listed for $2,000 or less within 50 miles.

Amen!

You can't pay everyone in the country $600 a week for 2 years to stay at home and not expect a huge ripple. We already had a work ethic challenge and then the bat virus turned us on our head, try to get someone to work hard these days. Fiscal responsibility is a dirty word these days.

Rant over.

I'm outside the bubble. If you know what to look for or your mechanically inclined, you can still do it. I've bought 2 vehicles for less than $2000 in the past couple years. I had to fix a couple of issues on both of them but they are working fine now. It's best to find one for sale by someone who has owned it quite awhile. I avoid dealers. Your probably looking at 2006 to 2008 model years at that price. We also own a 2007 Chevy Hhr with 217,000 miles that still runs great. IMO many of the vehicles after 2008 have more complex computer systems and engines which make them less reliable. I'd stay away from Craigslist though and watch out on FB marketplace. Many of the ads that look like private sellers are actually dealers

Default Park on the streets

When I inquired, I was told the county owns the streets. People CAN park on the street for 48 hours. Then they have to move the vehicle. So they can move it ten feet every 48 hours and be legal. TV owns the sidewalks. Nature of the beast.

Let’s in CYVs in my district no vehicles parked on street, no carts in yards, and no work vehicles. O wait that was old rules, now everything goes.
