I was wondering that also.

I put your question into bing. It pulled up city data that said 5.19 miles.
and US Census at 5.6 don't know why they differ maybe one doesn't include the area in the town of Lady Lake or is leaving out the lakes and wetlands.

But if you look at a map and include the area they are developing, it looks longer than wide so not square and 5 miles not indicitive of drive from farthest south when finished to farthest north.

I decided that if I lived way south and was going to be out and about all the time I would need the extended range batteries or a solar roof on my golf cart.

Sorry as usual I ramble.

Try linking to this:

It's a program that let's you double click on points on a map and measure distances. You can zoom in & out. You can save routes.

I did an APPROIMATE line draw around the Villages and it came out to 25 miles.
The thing is there's no real long straight lines. It's kinda shapped like an egg.

Do you know how to use "Pi" ?

(I've forgot) And don't know if it works on an egg.

Anyway you might find it fun to play with.

A while ago, from another source, I heard that TV comprises 23,000 acres.

My good old (emphasis on old) Webster's Collegiate says that 640 acres equals 1 square mile.

My trusty calculator says that translates to 35.9 square miles.

230,000 / 640 = 35.9

Whatever, it seems like alot of ground to me!

I read about five square miles, too. But that has to be very old information. The Villages commercial property website states that The Villages encompasses over 20,000 acres. At 640 acres to the square mile that would come out to about 31.25 square miles. But that information is old too. Does anyone know who would know for sure?

Pete Wahl told me at one of the district meetings that there were about 30,000 acres. which is almost 50 sq miles. Not sure if that includes the property South of 466A.

From The Villages website...

The Villages is the largest single-site residential real estate development in the United States spanning over 26,000 acres in three adjoining counties in Central Florida.

So, if 640 acres = 1 square mile - then 26000 acres = 26000 / 640 = 40.6 square miles

So much for the accuracy of the US census I bet I got old figures on only the developed areas at the time of the last count.

I was told by a salesman in the golf cart store at the Landings last week --when I asked which Cart --electric/gas was better for typical use here

He told me 60 square miles 5 by 12 -----

By the way he pushed the gas model

I ahd heard that the approximate area is on the order of the size of the District of Columbia in total, including the un-developed areas owed by the Morse family. That would put the total on the order of 75 -100 square miles.... a LOT of territory.

This past winter our salesperson told us it was roughly 35 square miles at this point. I know I've put about 650 miles on the golf cart just exploring The Villages from one end to the other.
