Has anyone changed their vinyl flooring to Tile or Wood Plank?
If so what to they do, take old out pull the trim work in the room? If you had this done, who do you recommend that does good work? |

I had the rolled vinyl that came with my new house ripped out along with all carpet and had it replaced with luxury vinyl plank. Upgraded all baseboards at the same time. They completely removed the existing rolled vinyl, and did not merely install the LVP over it. I used Roberto’s and was happy with the final product and their service.

You generally pull all the baseboard and replace it. You can try to save it but some of it will break during removal and you also have to deal with the nails. Better to just replace it. If there is quarter round or a similar shoe at the bottom you may be able to just pull the quarter round and replace that.
LVL is a very easy DIY project if you are planning on floating it....in case that route interests you. |

Two questions, one you do not have to remove the existing baseboard with whatever flooring you choose to use. They will use 1/4 round molding to transition your new flooring to your baseboard. They will remove the existing scribe trim at any cabinetry and reinstall it again on the new flooring you select. Second, if you choose wood or LVP they don't have to remove the vinyl, the new floor will float over your existing vinyl. With tile I am sure they can prep the vinyl floor to accept the tile flooring and float out the transition of the vinyl edge to the concrete slab and make it work. There are usually two sizes of quarter round to pick from, use the smallest they offer. If it was my home and I went with all tile I would have them remove all of the baseboard and supply and install new on top of the tile unless you were to op to taller base where you can tile up to and not lose the height .

I had a mold issue. I had no idea vinyl flooring held the moisture and caused mold. I had it all removed and replaced with tile. Quarter round was added to the existing trim. Great Lakes has done all my flooring and I have been very happy with them. My daughter also had them replace her flooring with plank and she has been satisfied.

Roberto’s removed all old flooring and put down LVF. Quarter round. Very happy,

I used LA Flooring in Wildwood. Very satisfied and would do it again in a heartbeat.
I got vinyl plank in the kitchen and baths. Rugs everywhere else. Rugs were very helpful for me when undergoing knee replacement surgery. Wall-to-wall carpet makes for a more comfortable living IMO. And I don't have to put down area rugs and throw rugs everywhere. However, I would not have gotten it if we had pets. I don't believe he took out the old linoleum. I remember them saying something about treating it for mold. |

LVT is a floating floor application … it can be installed directly on top of the rolled vinyl

have the baseboards removed. putting in 1/4 round is the cheap way to go. LA Flooring removes the baseboards, paints them and re-installs. Family owned business, great to work with. Had them do LVP after they pulled up the carpet. Can't answer for tile though, but I would have the tile removed, if possible.

I do not like the look of quarter round so I had stick & stone remove my 3 inch base boards and replace with 4.5 inch base boards — no paint touch ups needed and looks great. With them doing my floor they charged around $250 for a whole house upgrade; small designer home.

Use shoe moulding not quarter round if you want a nicer look.

I put in vinyl planking myself and I replaced all the trim, including the doors. The original trim job wasn't very good and they painted over it at some point (sloppy job), which made it look even worse. I also chose the flat-faced trim over contoured trim. I think it looks cleaner and more modern. I am going to put quarter round on it just because my baseboard is pretty tall at 4 1/2 inches and the quarter round dresses it up a little bit. |
