The cartel pot could be cut with dangerous impurities that the government-controlled pot would NOT have. Even if the state-approved pot was sold at a loss, it would have guaranteed quality as opposed to cartel pot.
.....You would think that the state-approved pot would have production advantages (like not being raided and jailed) that SHOULD (?) lead to real cost advantages. The cartels have to cause the states other problems like crime and murder that could change the cost-benefit analysis involved in getting rid of them.

I'll go along with making weed legal as long as laws are passed that makes the manufacture, sale and use of all other illegal drugs punishable with the death sentence. IMHO, that would take care of quite a bit of our drug problem.

I’m 74 yrs. old & I personally don’t think it’s worse than drinking. I think it’s just some of the older generation that doesn’t like any kind of drugs. The biggest thing is if they want it legalized it treat it the same way the smoking laws are. I just don’t like smoking & smelling someone stinking breath that been smoking.

One night I left our apartment to go for a dip in the pool, and when I came back, they were all sound asleep.

Over time, I definitely noticed a change in their behavior. They didn't seem as sharp mentally as they were before, and I suspect it was due to the long-term effects of marijuana. Based on what I observed, I think marijuana use should be illegal.
The first thing that occurred to me was the "clinics" that give you your med use cards will be the biggest opponents to recreational legalization ,, lots of money being made there, from what I am told nobody fails to qualify ,, for a fee,, perhaps they will make the appropriate donations the the right thinking politicians

The fee to get medically certified is chump change in comparison to the fact there are no taxes on medical card holders. That’s a big reason most states that approve medical quickly follow up with legalization of recreational, follow the tax $$$$$. When Massachusetts first legalized recreational use the dispensaries were full of cars with license plates from the surrounding states, now most of those states have legalized marijuana so they don’t miss out on the tax revenue. The New England region has now become a mature market with significant competition, which has resulted in prices dropping over 50% the last couple of years.

I shake my head when driving around the 5 college area in western Massachusetts, just about every new business that pops up is either a brewery or marijuana dispensary. How can an economy be sustainable in the long run that is based on drinking and smoking? Yet another reason not to forgive those student loans?

Having dealt with c and the surgeries associated with it, there were many times I was on various drugs for pain. My family learned no matter what I would say when they were driving me home from the hospital, NEVER take me to a store. This was especially true for Home Depot. Under meds I had this epiphany that clarified all of the items I NEED but never knew. A few days later I would stumble down to the mud room and wonder why the hell we had voice activated door locks, Instant hot water taps (9 of them, one for each bedroom and the extra for my bathroom), expensive spray painters in case I ever decided to paint the house (Which I could not as it was a landmark and the vast majority stone). Perhaps you experience the same issue. Try not smoking, eating, vaping for a week and then decide if you feel the need to wax your upper body.
As for the suits, No Brioni? Do you still wear suits, and if so what are you wearing these days. I had the ones you mention, along with Zegna, Brioni and Cerruti 1881. Approaching sixty I will not wear those makes today as imo ankle length skinny pants are not appropriate for someone my age. I am from the double leg break on the shoe era. Any advice is appreciated.

I use to say that alcohol and religion was useful in keeping the masses in line. I could make a point that marijuana is doing the same today. Back in college we had Al Haig and a Soviet (pre fall) defector speak about ways governments use to keep citizens in check. Making a drug that calms and reduces ambition easily available seems to be a great option.

Drugs and Drink; keep the population compliant. As for student loans, were we really going to get strict on the budget I can see your point. When we give so much money away, even to countries that hate us, I find it difficult to say draw the line at college students. The fed student loan program is one reason prices have gone from 8K a yr to 52K for my college in one generation.

As the thread's topic is marijuana legalization I was referring to the following folks.

toker - Wiktionary

Urban Dictionary: Stoner

Urban Dictionary: pot head

I can’t figure out if your putting on but I don’t vape and I don’t have a medical marijuana card , I have the same person who delivers when I’m here , she’s not greedy and she’s been around for 7 years , kids in private school , FYI if your really interested , during the cooler months I wear sport jackets with jeans and shoes or boots , I don’t need to be high to shop I just do , and you know all those stores sell shirts , sweaters that can wear all the time and slacks and jeans which are skinny even if you think there not appropriate at 84 , I’ve also been getting waxed for 30 years because I didn’t want to look like a grey bear and because I don’t wear t shirts it feels great when you put a shirt on , vanity ,ego , yes I have but most of my Boston friends are same way , my advice stop feeling sorry for yourself and get out there and move I’ve just come back from weekly acupuncture and 4 mile walk and run and I’m headed soon to Orlando to the mall to buy things I don’t need including a couple of pair of sun glasses at the sun glass hut , why buy them there , well because I’m a snob lol
