Default Sumter County Commissioner

Can anyone clarify what this post pays ? Is this expected to be a full time job, as many candidates appear to already have one. Thanks

Wonder how many hours per week the job entails?

This is a question that will never be answered....unless you pay attention to any local elected official....anywhere in the nation.

Many elected officials hold ‘full time’ positions outside of their elected capacities. This is fine....and it’s legal. The ones that campaign on “this is a full time job for me”....while those that question that premise will counter with “its a couple meetings a month”. The latter is not really fair because anyone that’s served in a local elected capacity knows the job (should be) 24/7/365, and for most part it is. Meetings, sub committee meetings, community events....getting stopped at Dunkin Donuts, phone calls, emails, knocks at the door at any given time to address an issue. But you know what, that’s the gig! For those that operate in this fashion, you have my respect, for those that just mail it in....the voters will always have the final say.

Good luck to all of the candidates tomorrow!

The position ( no matter the salary) is certainly not worth the aggravation regardless whether you are retired or not. Life is too short. Having said that, several “gold stars” for those willing to run for office and serve.

Some people still have to be in charge of something.

So..... a couple of months ago I asked one of the heavily promoted candidates a question about the details of voter registration processes. She answered "I don't know. I'm in charge of phone banks." That was it. No reference to someone else who might know. No "I'll help you find the right person / answer." None of that.

When my wife and I retired, we retired.
Let those who need/ love aggravation get on with it.

She’s annoying. If it’s the same one that came on here as a ‘sponsor’ and did the self serving political drops before the mods ‘caught up’ with her actions and shut it down...a half of dozen times.....yeah, I think we’re talking about the same person!

Are you running to replace her?

Do ‘we’ need to?!
Many have complained about ‘her’ on here about the antics. Under the guise of a ‘ToTV Sponsor’. Remember the golden rule that applies to people like this and the ones that support that nonsense....”the rules are for thee...not for me”!

Thanks for the acknowledgment of the work being done by local officials. As one myself it’s rarely mentioned and greatly appreciated.

There are no days off, there is little private time inside or outside the home, the phone and emails are constantly in play. The hours in the office are a fraction of the time and effort required. At the city and county level it's not about the money, for most, it's about serving the community and wanting to make it better. For some, they come in with an agenda. If you don't know what an agenda is in the world of government, it is that individual's way of telling you what their pet project is that they want to spend your money on: we can't afford agendas.

I agree with many of you, it's time to retire and do the things we enjoy, for some of us that is still service to others.

You will see that by my earlier post....we agree...partially.

I don’t care what happens today other than what I stated countless times before. I like the BOCC as currently constituted. I’ve also said that your potential return to the seat is not the end of the world. I actually like what you bring to the table in some instances.

My concern, not just today but going forward, is the 86K haul you took in between 4/1 and 5/30. The majority of it from the developer, the family, vendors and TV management. No $10, $20, $50 contributions from little old ladies and ToTV members. You say you represent the whole County....where are the contributions from police, fire, EMS, teachers, public works employees that make up all of Sumter County? On the export you submitted to the state between those dates....I don’t see any. But again, it’s all legal....but when you accuse your self funded competitors of being ‘agenda’ driven....it falls on deaf ears. Oren Miller chose not to accept contributions (can you blame him after what’s been done to him!)...and put in 4K of his own money to fund this campaign. 86K to 4K!!! Every candidate has a right to a path and direction he...and his supporters endorse. That’s not an agenda... it’s governance. If you still believe that it’s an agenda, than I have 86K reasons to say that you’re doing the same thing!
