Ha! Never thought of that. My dad always called my mother his bride..in a loving way. Schmaltzy? Yes, but sooo much better than "the wife." IMO, that sounds disrespectful.

And, you're right, she never called him her groom.

Finally got it.

Kinda macho. Sometimes women are fun and entertaining to be with, even shopping. I find it true of men too, when they go to Home Depot or look at cars.

Plus there is the before and after entertainment that Bare mentioned.

Took me awhile to figure out what you were catty footing around saying.

The benches are for those occasions when you're out doing something else with your spouse, and you run across a shop (or shops, heh) that you would like to look in. (into which you would like to look--for Barefoot's mom...)

Or those times when you're both going to some store for an item, and it's so full of potpourri your spouse has a sneezing fit. Off to the bench he goes.

That's OK, I have no idea how and why I dreamed that up, but it probably cost me more brain cells. And I'm starting to think I better start conserving them!

Now he won't go within a mile of a clothing store with me.
I envy women I see with men patiently waiting and offering comments on each outfit they try on.
You would have to reverse this for us. I am married to the long distance shopper as I have very little patience with a slow meander. Hubby goes to the store brings home bags of outfits I try them on pick what I like and he takes the rest back.

Ha ha! I would have 34 pairs of khakis and 67 polo shirts, mostly black!

I used to hate it when my husband went clothes shopping with me. He vetoed everything.

Eagle, I wasn't fussing at you. Just explaining. I don't live to shop. I don't "shop" a lot. My husband has surprised me at birthdays and Christmas with some very pretty clothes over time. He also listens very carefully if I am searching for a particular thing for the home and often we will come up with the same thing separately. After many years of two busy careers often making us far apart in geography, we really enjoy doing a lot of mundane things together we didn't used to. We both have always been careful with our money, just a trait taught us by our depression era families, but do like to find just the " right " thing when we are looking for a piece of furniture.

I do want to defend my dear husband as not at all "whipped" but rather just a nice fella who seems to enjoy hanging around with me. He makes almost anything we do together so enjoyable. And I am not kidding about this. I am so lucky after 53 years to say that. Many folks don't enjoy shopping together at all, and for me that would NOT be a deal breaker.

I know that a lot of guys hate to accompany their wives shopping and I don't blame them. I wouldn't either. I hate to see money wasted and I can't get excited spending hours finding the exact color of earrings to match my shirt.

If we were all the same they would just sell vanilla ice cream.

I didn't mean to swat you Eagle. I sounded harsh now that I reread what I said. You weren't catty footing, I was trying to explain what word came before whipped, umm politely. Although Miss Galore in the James Bond wasn't Catty Galore. I worked in a man's world for a long time so I have heard all of those terms. I like men just the same as women. Good folks.

I would have got this if you had used the two word expression I usually hear. 12 of the most whipped husbands and boyfriends in TV history - Guyism - Guyism
