We own a home in The Villages but have a home to sell in Ohio. My husband is planning on retiring in January of next year, so after four years we will finally be heading down for good. We are dreaming of The Villages but enjoying things you only find up north....
I am trying to make it through the winter by enjoying some of the things I believe I will miss.... Jungle Jims DLM Skyline Birds and Trees of the north Cool days Mike Sells Fraze Gray days....only kidding... What will you or do you miss from where you live/lived? |

I moved down here from Chicago almost 4 years ago and I get very homesick at times, especially Christmas. What I miss:
Family! Snowfall at Christmas..it just isn't Christmas down here with Santa hats on plastic flamingos! Chicago culture-museums, Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium Wrigley Field home games, Soldier Field Bear's games NORMAL trees...Birch, towering pines, fall colors..palm trees to me are a waste. They remind me of chimney sweepers. Chicago skyline Planting a garden with a wide variety of plants and flowers. It's SO limited down here! Midwest Farmer's Markets! The variety of veggies and fruits were amazing up there. Here, the apples are the size of golf balls and don't even get me started on tomatoes! |

Living in New England the changing seasons are what are missed the most. Mountains, skiing, and lakes you can swim in. I suppose you can swim in lakes in Florida, but you have to worry about bacteria levels.
The snow is something everyone seems to move to Florida to get away from, but the first thing you miss around December. Missing where you come from is only natural, because it is a part of you! Last edited by Moderator; 01-18-2013 at 08:10 PM. |

Not here full time yet but I KNOW I'm going to miss the Broadway theater. Love those musicals.

Meats from Harr's Surf and Turf in Palm Harbor.
Trips to Tarpon Spring's Library's great selection of DVDs and Tarpon Springs various beaches. Honeymoon Island park and walks on its beaches. Very close AMC movie theater in Oldsmar which had 20 screens and two very large movie theaters. Swimming in pool we had to Palm Harbor. Deep enough to jump in carefully at one end. |

To start off with - the usual - the food ! Not trying to start anything here but it is just different. But that's okay - I elected to move here so . . .
Family, friends, Manhattan (although I didn't go THAT much) and just the "way of life" on Long Island. Again - not better or worse just used to 55 years up there and only 7 down here in South Florida - not yet in TV. Home and life are what (where) you make it !!!!

Nothing and I'm not there yet!!!!!
Maybe a good Portugese restaurant that serves Marascada and Paella in large portions. What I miss is sitting on a patio outside at a restaurant and feeling a soft breeze having a beer and watching the Yankees play Tampa on the television. Oh wait.... you were talking about not being in TV. ![]()

Surf, friends, beach, music, ocean, multiple micro brewery's, surf, people that gladly yield to bikers, joggers, skaters and walkers because they are also one or all of them as well and understand that slowing down & yielding IS NO BIG DEAL!, walking my dog on the beach unleashed for miles and miles, surf, Cuban & Tex Mex food, a "beach" attitude ..... did I mention surf?

When we do retire & move I know I'll miss a lot of the people I work with, some for over twenty years, and I know I'll long for some of our favorite locally owned restaurants. I'm sure there are a few Crimson Tide fans in TV, so I'll have to search them out so I can continue to discuss Bama football. Roll Tide!! But I WON'T miss the thousands of tobacco chewin rednecks that spit & throw down their used-up wads of tobaccy wherever they please. During our recent LSV I never saw any of that nasty habit going on in TV.
