I miss:

...my daughter, son in law, and 2 grandsons

...owning a speed boat and pontoon boat and living on a chain of 7 lakes that we could boat and swim on/in without fear of alligators and polluted waters. Enjoying the slow ride down the river in between lakes and watching the turtles sunning themselves on rocks and listening to the birds chirping in the trees...very relaxing and therapeutic.

...our house that we built in 1987, a replica of a 1940's farmhouse with a huge wraparound porch. The porch was 56 x 8 on one side and 24 x 8 on the other and had a wood swing and a lot of porch furniture ready for visitors to come join us. I used to sit on that swing and read for hours. I'd also talk to the neighbors as they walked by. The porch furniture could write a book...a lot of good neighbor experiences were shared there.

...Zukey Lake Tavern: Not the best food but a landmark and a great place to pull the pontoon up to, dock it, get out and go inside to eat...wearing swimsuit and all...lol....what fun!

...Hell, Michigan...just because of it's name. Yes, it's a real place and I lived there for a year.

The only thing I miss from Ohio is Graeters Ice Cream. Yum Yum. Seriously, I haven't missed a thing. My lifestyle is so good here. What would I be doing in Ohio in January other than shoveling snow and longing for Spring. Today I golfed, swam, road my bike to Brownwood and back and had three neighbors stop by to chat. I'm lovin it.

As I read these posts I think " wow, why did you leave so much"? , but then I realize there is a season and a reason for everything in our lives and most of us have decided to move on and keep those wonderful memories of "home" in our hearts. And yes we have found paradise to replace what we left and aren't we soooo lucky.

What do I miss most - from Saint Louis, Missouri, especially that part of the city known as the Central West End - where I lived for the better part of 42 years?

Quite simply: fall colors and spring bulbs such as daffodils, jonquils and tulips, as well as the beautiful yellow of the blossoming forsythia, or the wonderfully pink blossoms of the redbud tree!" Or, the fascinating white blossoms of the dogwood tree which had a dominate position in my front yard

Yes, my "Drake Elm" here in Florida loses its leaves every fall, but since it is now mid-January, and there are many leaves still attached to the tree, that doesn't seem to be terribly important! But, from experience, I know that the tree will return to a full Spring attitude within a few weeks!

Of course, I do NOT miss the snow, the sleet, the chilly shoveling days, nor those days when many businesses closed, because it was too cold or too snowy or too "unfriendly!"

My loyal, caring general practitioner! We have not been bowled over by any of our doctors here! Oh well we had the same GP in NC for 30 years and he'll be retiring soon anyway!

Still looking for a special relationship with a doctor here but that may be more and more difficult with the coming changes in health care!
