Does anyone, especially those versed in the law, know what is the statute regarding parking on the cart/bike lane. All too frequently contractors park their large trucks and trailers in the cart lane of roads such as Pinellas Pl., Hillsborough Tr., and Hendry Dr., blocking the entire cart lane and part of the roadway as well. I feel this creates a safety issue for carts, bikes and cars. I assume they do this for the convenience of accessing the back yard of homes with equipment and supplies, rather than entering the residential area and parking in front of the house. Now if a county worker is repairing the road or accessing a storm drain, that's one thing, but for a private contractor to create a safety hazard just for his own convenience is quite another. Thoughts?????? (Sorry, this has been a pet peeve of mine for years)

I agree, doesnt seem right, they should unload what they have to and park elsewhere,but they leave the truck there all day ,it should be a violation...

seems like this is not something that they should be doing....suggest that you call the company offices and ask if there is an alternative... they may not be aware

According to Sumter County Parking Ordinance 17 Exhibit A dated 8/21/90 Delivery Vehicles,Utility Company Vehicles,Service Vehicles, or other vehicles temporarily parked or stopped are OK as long as they're doing deliveries,construction,maintenance or other duties normally associated with the duties and responsibilities of the driver. If law enforcement determines it to be an immediate danger to the safety and welfare of the public then it must be moved.

I don't see the problem. If you come up on a vehicle parked in the cart lane you check to your rear to make sure it is safe to pass. If a person's driving skills are so poor that they can't do that simple maneuver then they need to stay off the road. I've read posts where people complain about contractor vehicles blocking their driveway or the narrow street in their neighborhood. Where are they supposed to park?

Well, I can guarantee that I'm a better driver than 99.9% of Villagers, and I see a problem with it. First of all, you cannot see anyone exiting a side street just past the vehicles. You cannot see if a pedestrian decides to "socially distance" and pops out from behind the truck. And you can't see any of the other hundreds of stupid things Villages drivers do. It's not as simply as just checking you mirror. And this occurs for the CONVENIENCE, not necessity of a private contractor.

PS. Do you really think blocking a driveway is acceptable?????

So slow down for what, 20 feet? I normally agree with 90% of your posts but this is a nit. There are bigger issues including carts that exceed 30 MPH

They should park in the driveway of the property they are servicing.
