I had a similar problem. They kept telling me it was us, but we went away for a month and the water usage was still high, and it should have been zero!
I INSISTED they come and check the meter and the hook ups. It turned out that when our house was built our irrigation water was hooked up to our house water meter and vice versa. It sounds like you could have the same problem. They were able to adjust and credit us etc. Good luck.

Is this potable or irrigation or both?

Does this mean that irrigation water is flowing to your house and potable water is irrigating your lawn??

My fault, because we moved in in December. The house had been inspected as was the irrigation system, so, like a dunce, I did not check the system.

I should have checked the timer. Or at least insisted someone from the water company come out. It took him 10 minutes to figure it out, plus gave a lesson on the meter.

I am a bit embarrassed, because I thought I was sharper than that!
If you never used a sprinkler system setting it up wrong or not changing from new grass t established is common. Be sure to mention to new residences to check the systems.

Re this topic, I've got our irrigation system set to four zones, twice a week at 42 minutes each. My irrigation readings for the past four months have been, Apr 5,330, May 9,870, June 14,350, and July 16,190. Does this point to a messed up sprinkler head(s), or is something else going on? I'm up North right now. Thanks.

When you plan to be out of the house for a few hours, make sure you are not running the dishwasher or a load of laundry, check the meter reading before you go and when you return. Simple - no movement = no leak.

I did that and found one of the valves on the sprinkler system did not shut off all the way. A small leak can (and does) add up to a lot of gallons over time.

Can anyone recommend someone to check for irrigation leaks?
I got a very high bill in June, 22,550 galloons. I checked the timer and looked at every sprinkler as I walked around the house. No obvious leaks. I looked at the meter when the irrigation system was off and the dial was not moving.
I checked the zones and I am watering twice a week, for a total of about 1.5 hours each time.
I just got my July bill and I used 20,630. My usage before June was averaging about 8,000.
I don't know who to have check it out, but any recommendations would be appreciated.

Our outside watering usage changes every month. I think it is difficult to compare with others because of the size of the lot ( the # of and type of irrigation heads needed) the # of times a week one waters and the length of time alloted for each head. Does the owner have a pool? Spa? Did the owner wash down the lanai birdgage house
