Why do walkers have to walk 3 and 4 abreast? Maybe if they would quit cackling and waddling along they just might get some excerise?

You don't have the right to block lanes of traffic, walk in front of vehicles or cross the street anywhere you please, it's called J walking. When I walk I am concerned about on coming traffic ESPECIALLY on BLIND corners. I freely and quickly ready to get off the road when vehicles will met where I am. When my wife and I walk we walk SINGLE fille, not blocking the compete lane from on Coming traffic.

Basically it's two street.

There are those who think someone else is watching out for their best interest especially when they walk with the traffic. I never understood that. Drivers make mistakes, don't pay attention or just can't drive safely. My back is never facing oncoming traffic, that is just plain stupid.

It's a smart aleck response that deserves an apology or explanation.
You can complain about people not obeying the rules or adapt or go back home. I suppose you could also teach everyone how to behave.
That's an opinion too, isn't it?

I am a walker and walk on the left side of the street through the neighborhood where there aren't sidewalks. I was always taught if walking, go opposite the traffic. I was surprised to see so many walkers in TV who walk with the traffic.

Simply stated this topic would not continually be repeated on this forum if the planning and design of the MMP were safer. It shows up as much if not more than dog poop. And in pointing this out it does not mean I don't like living here nor believe that The Villages is not beautiful.. it only means that I believe the configuration of the MMP 's are not safe no more , no less

Personal Best Regards:

I have to disagree with you on this one. In almost every case, if not all, the problems related to the use of the MMP are due to human activity creating a problem. Whether it is speeding, failure to share the road, improper use of the path, or some other thing, it is a result of people not exercising due care and/or courtesy in their travels. Not a design flaw. I watch people in carts cutting the corners on curves without being able to see what's on the other side. People squeezing by bicyclists in their carts. Walkers oblivious to others on the path.

People say you can't fix stupid. By the same token, you can't design anything to totally eliminate problems created by people who do not exercise even a modicum of care or concern for their fellow travelers.

But I think that this place is amazing and one of it's kind and I think that the developers did a pretty good job trying to lay things out well. There would be room for separate paths if we didn't use all of the green space. I agree that there should have been separate walking paths. There wouldn't be as much of a problem if everyone drove and thought of others like you do and I try to do.

I have to ask if there were separate paths for walking and running where we all came from? We moved here from a nice area and there were some walking paths.

We have time to walk and we have time to think what isn't perfect. We have time to post it here and say it wherever we want. We live here in a peaceful place. I feel lucky enough.

Particularly this morning. I don't have the answers. I don't even have the right questions.
I agree. There should be separate paths for walking.

People who are out walking on cart paths are risking their lives. I'm pretty cautious. I always slow down and move over when I see walkers, but there are some places where there are blind corners and walkers who are walking against traffic are not seen until the golf cart is on top of them. If you're going to walk or run on the cart paths, you also need to take a bit of responsibility for your own safety.

I also regularly drive on a path where a group of bicyclists stop to rest. Some leave their bikes on the edge of the path and some even stand on the path chatting. It's in a spot where there is a big curve in the road and you can't see carts coming in the other direction.

I know that there are some golf cart drivers that are inconsiderate, but I think that some walkers, runners and cyclists can also be inconsiderate and put their own safety at risk. I've gotten dirty looks from walkers who seem to resent the fact that I'm on their walking path.

I don't know if it's happened yet, but it seems like only a matter of time before a walker gets hit by a golf cart and it seriously injured or killed.

There are some scooters that are approved for cart path use.

Do I understand correctly that we need one path for walkers, one for joggers, one for single bicycles, one for a gaggle of bicycles , one for golf carts, and one for miscellaneous things like segways, go k a r t s, scooters, etc.?

It appears that way, doesn't it?

I wouldn't go that far, but I believe that it would be safer if pedestrians had separate paths.

Adapt Where all those old mottos we taught our children that emphasizes the importance of self-initiative?

"better to light a candle than curse the darkness"

""God helps those who help themselves"

"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference."

If you don't like where you are walking or riding, walk or ride someplace else in the villages or go back home. Talk about entitlement.
