You can test it by going to Fast.com and it will tell you your speed.

Slow and slower.

Actually the price has dropped for high speed tiers by a lot. I am paying the same I paid for the 100Mbps tier 4 years ago for the 600Mbps tier. The low end tiers might go up but I don't know that since I don't have that. In fact, the 1200Mbps tier is now only $10 more than 600Mbps. How would you know that "practically no one" needs all that bandwidth? Do you check each home for how they use their internet ? Amazing how people (think they) know what everyone needs based on their own personal experience and needs. DO you tell people who own Corvette's they don't need a $125K vehicle because it's overkill? Or a million$ homes ?

There could be multiple reasons why that is happening. How old is your modem and or router? How old is the device you are testing on? I assume you are on WiFI or plugged in to your modem or router and not referring to cellular service? How far from the router when you test if on WIFI?? What device are you using (and how old is it)? If you have an older device you might try a friend or neighbor to run the same test from the exact same location. Also if on WI-FI stand right next to your modem/router to eliminate construction interference. So many more possibilities that can cause this. Possibly a wiring or termination issue between your demarc (outside main cable box) and your internal wiring to modem outlet or a bad wire from wall to modem. Could also be a Comcast issue. You should get what you are paying for. If you can't find someone to help you troubleshoot, call Xfinity (Comcast).

When i moved in here they had to run a new line from the main box 3 homes away back to the demarc on my outside wall because cable-tv was having low signal issues which can also affect internet.

I know for at least two reasons…because I am a computer expert who is technically advanced and I have common sense.

When people recommend getting the cheapest, slowest internet speeds, be careful. If you have a newer 4K TV and have the more expensive Netflix package that gives you 4k streaming, you will need about 15-18 mbs to stream one movie. If you have two TVs you will start to get buffering if you have a slow connection. That said, in today's world you probably want a 200 mbs or faster package and you can get them fairly cheap. I recommend Century Link's Quantum Fiber if it's availabe in your area. With the free router and gift card if you get the faster package, it's very reliable and you won't have to think about internet speed and or cost again.

Fewer and fewer people are using cable boxes these days and with just an internet connection, assuming you have a smart TV or smart stick, you can stream everything at a cheaper cost and the picture quality will blow away anything you get from cable. Cable is dying so don't get stuck with their packages and increases. These days you have many choices.
