There are turkeys in the national forest just north of here.

The laws here allowing public access to hunting public lands are insane here in FL. I've never experienced such a thing and I've hunted all over the country. Even FWC when I talk to them acknowledges FL may very well be the most complicated in the country. But yes, I've been eyeing the hogs and turkey on the public lands here.

We drew a gator tag this year. Pretty excited about that. Hoping to hunt bear here, or at least offer my knowledge to a lucky resident who does draw and be part of a FL bear hunt. We hunt MN yearly for bear.

My guess is you cannot discharge a firearm anywhere within The Villages. Been here 3 years, have never heard a gunshot. Keep residents safe!

In the Villages, probably. But, it is perfectly legal to waterfowl hunt Deaton, Okahumpka and Minona. As they are not within The Villages.

I've been tempted to smoke that gator across the lake from us but I'm sure my neighbors (at least one of them) would get excited. The other would be excited for the gator BBQ later that evening.

I used to hunt ducks up north in my younger years but I don't think I would feel safe walking into duck habitat shared with alligators and water moccasins.

Yeah it’s different. Losing downed birds to alligators. Can run a dog for that very reason. Snakes never bothered me. I still wade, but it’s different.

I totally get it that meat gathers prefer not eating stuff farm raised and given questionable feed to promote growth. That being said, do you really think eating a gator living in a pond that accumulates all the chemical runoff from the pesticides and fertilizers in the Villages is something that is doing your body some kind of good?

What I miss is wild game dinners. The local Vol FD would put one on every year as a charity event. They had venison, bear, boar, duck and turkey etc…
Is there anything like that around here I wonder.
