Sounds like a movie I saw.

Of course, the cats were not too happy with the whole situaton.

Seems better for larger dogs as that area is a little bigger and it is also not so hilly.

They seemed to make land that would not be good for anything else into a dog park. Not a good plan for the dogs. The two other Villages dog parks are OK. Doggie Doo Run Run though is so much better than any Villages dog park.
If that's the one by the fire house, I go there. Yeah, it's a bit hilly but I like that there is shade. People for the most part do pick up after their dogs. I think it's as much for the people to hang out as the dogs. Nice group of people, nice group of dogs.

Sounds like they think that is a dog dumping station .

Another argument why cats rule and dogs drool. Rada, the Siberian wondercat, sticks to e-mail. She walks all over my keyboard, sending pithy missives to friends and foes, alike.

Here is her typed comment on this thread...."Beware of the tautology of internal validation when you are dealing with an animal who greets friends by sniffing their privates."

When I was growing up I would get disgusted watching dogs "being curbed", most days I vomitted and didn't make it to school. My mother told me "Don't look!". Worked then, works now.

I'm not living there yet, but intend to. When I was there for the preview I went to that dog park. I have to tell you it is pretty pathetic compared to the one at our county park I go to here. That park for small dogs is on a steep incline and there's large patches of dirt. I wondered why a few bags of mulch couldn't be put down. It's only open certain hours of the day. I know because another dog owner and I showed up when it was closed. I was really surprised that the park wasn't better given the level of quality of everything else at TV. I also went to one that was above 466 I think near the historic area, and that was worse. Almost all dirt. I was extremely disappointed. I did not get to Doggy Do Run but hope to see it next time I'm there and I'm willing to pay that fee. Still, if dog owners are a significant percentage of the population, then why can't a decent dog park be a priority?

I am just as outraged as anyone else if I find other dogs droppings in my yard. I would never do that. However, I'm amazed at the concern about pee. My dogs do the most before they leave our yard on our walks but like to smell where other dogs are and deposit a drop. Even my current neighbor who prizes his lawn above all things doesn't get upset if he sees one of them lift a leg because he knows the amount is minimal and won't harm it.

Very good post. It's really crazy that there are so few decent dog parks.

I think the answer to your question about a decent dog park being a priorty is that "they" do not have to change anything to be enormously successful selling homes here. I have to point out that how it is, is how it will be so please don't come with the hopes of changing anything and then be disappointed. This isn't anything like what most of us are used to in our lives up until now. It is a CDD form of government and we don't vote. We can suggest.

It seems that opening a dog park closeby is a good business opportunity for someone. And an indoor pool and a fitness center.

But...would a person get into their car or cart and go to a dog park? Some would, Some would not. It would have to be maintained and overseen. That wouldn't be free. It is just like adding any program or good thing. Someone has to pay for it.

Dog parks are not profitable, but squeezing as many new homes as possible into a small parcel of land is very profitable. It's all about the bottom line. Also, don't expect to see more softball fields or bowling alleys, IMO.

Bowling alleys (lanes) are privatly owned.

My other half always walked our dog to the mail box area first thing in the morning, met all his dog owner friends, they stood around talking while the dogs did their thing, then he would walk back. It's a conversational thing ............
He loved it, she loved it and everyone was happy.
