I take Bonyta to the dog park behind the fire station everyday around 3 or 4 in the afternoon & we're almost always the only one's there. On our way back we stop for the mail & it never fails that there are at least 2 or more dogs there. Is the dog park too inconvenient ( 10 minutes away by golf cart)

He looooooooooves to sniff where other dogs have been, and there's a high concentration of scent around the mailbox areas. Fortunately, he''s not a marker, so he's not killing any grass or plants.

I see nothing wrong with walking down to the mailboxes with him for a proper sniff, and nobody's going to convince me otherwise.
Why not take him to the DOG parks!!

The big-dog part of that park has a lot of dirt instead of grass, and our dog is a long-haired dirt magnet. And my mail isn't there, and we can't walk to it.

Plus, we don't have a golf cart. (There. I said it.)

Gomoho, just reading your post makes me feel better too. There will never be agreement on this subject, except on the fact that only really bad people would fail to pick up their dog's doo, and none of the bad people are members of TOTV anyway.

Unfortunately not every dog does well in that type of setting. Many years ago my JRT was attacked here on our street by dog who got loose. Now she can be rather defensive dependent upon posturing of other pets. So it is necessary for us to stay clear Sure wish we could make use of the park though! Once she sees another dog several times she is fine, but those first few meetings may not go too well! Too bad for usCause she's such a sweetheart!

Nice post. Know a lot of people who take their pooches to the mail centers. They for the most part pick up after their dogs.

People should remember that there are alligators near many of the areas in the deep Southern States (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana) where you would normally walk dogs. Like near ponds and lakes. Gators do take a bite out of the opportunities available for dog walking, swimming, etc.

We don't seem to have such animosity here, and when in TV I still intend to take those walks. I would never ever neglect to pick up after my animals however, and discard their waste in a special can at my home. My neighbors dogs will be welcome to visit! But most likely my pups will be with me when I walk to get my mail...
Dogs need to walk...a daily trip to the mailbox sounds like a good idea to me! (I have been picking up after my dogs for almost 30 years in NYC and I intend to do so in the Villages also when I get down there! I too despise people who don't pick up after their dogs...it is particularly unsanitary for the dogs themselves!)

We have a group of feral cats in our neighborhood. They do poop in the woods, so to speak. And on the lawns. Their poop is quite different from that of a dogs. Easy to recognize if you have ever cleaned out a kitty litter. We also get rabbit, duck, possum, and bird poop. Probably lizard poop as well.

You're kiddin' right?

We cat people love our animals and wouldn't; A. let them out of the house, and B, break the rules. I haven't seen any cats running free except the feral cats around Havana.

Cats aren't allowed to be out without a leash or in a stroller and I am seen both, once.

Plus um...cats dig and bury.

Lots of indoor/outdoor cats in our neighborhood (ours is indoor only); I worry about that due to the water near us. Hope no kitties go missing come mating season.

It's time for you people to wake up. Can't you see what's going on here? Dogs are using mind control on their "owners" (Who really owns who?). Dogs have been sent here from another planet to colonize earth. They are leaving their mark (A form of lojack) so that their doggy army can hone in on us. If we humans don't pick up after them the doggy army will find us sooner. Please don't make it easier for them. I WANT TO LIVE!

Talked to a lot of people who have visited the Bonita Dog Park. It is a very difficult dog park to use for small dog owners as it is on a steep incline and you have to watch out for the poop that has not been picked up in many places on the hill while also trying to keep track of where you own pooch is going.

Seems better for larger dogs as that area is a little bigger and it is also not so hilly.

They seemed to make land that would not be good for anything else into a dog park. Not a good plan for the dogs. The two other Villages dog parks are OK. Doggie Doo Run Run though is so much better than any Villages dog park.
