You guess it was for the tax credit. Not necessarily. They may have just wanted to operate on the streets at higher speed.

Some stopped buying license tags? If they did not go through the procedure to revoke their LSV status they could be charged with operating an unregistered vehicle if they operate it on the streets.

Tax fraud? Assuming that someone did make their purchase for the tax credit, what were the listed obligations to receive the credit. Were they obligated to operate the LSV for a certain period of time?

John Stossel of Fox News bought one to demonstrate that the tax credit entirely paid for the LSV, so he effectively got it for free. After demonstrating it on his news show he donated it to charity. By the time the program was on the air, the government had ended the tax credit.

As I said, what were the obligations for someone who bought a cart to be street legal? Do that research and you may have an answer to your questions.
I never saw the TV show but I find it difficult to believe that you could get the Cart for free---even with the tax credit. First, the street legals were more expensive---about $10,000- $11,000 as I remember. The tax credit was in the ballpark of $5,000 depending on the cart you purchased. Do the math.

The cost for insurance would soon "eat up" the tax credit. As another post mentioned, safety is another issue. Only able to go 25 mph when everyone else is going 35 or more likely at least 40mph---doesn't seem like the place I want to be in a golf cart.

Those living outside of TV may use the Street Legals to get into TV and then use the golf trails. It is what it is.

What streets outside The Villages that lead into The Villages are under 35mph?
