Trash cans would be blowing around in the wind. People would leave them in the street all day. Its fine with bags.

No thanks. I’m good with how we do it now, for the reasons noted above.

This sounds like a case of somebody taking the other side of an argument just to be stubborn. I like the way it’s done. In fact, I’m wondering why the powers that be haven’t adopted this method in their town. I believe TV should win an award for this!

We've been here since 2013. Never had issues with animals getting into the bags or any other issues of leakage.

Jimmy,
I notice you may be new. I worried about critters when I was new, & I made an amonia spray to spray my bags & the inside of the bags where the tasty stuff (to the critters) might be. The neighbors told me they had no problems with critters getting into their trash bags, & I have not had to use the amonia spray because it is not needed. Now, if you are near a swamp area that might be different. I hope this link posts, it is a Florida street with a trash can race. Pretty funny, unless you are driving a golf cart.

There're are several very old coined terms for said behavior. They rhyme with carpet b@gger and yankee. There are some more political alignments as well, but that is a verboten topic on TOTV so we will not go down that road today.
I think he's from the west end of the country.

It is very antiquated and unhygienic how we have it here in the Villages. Leaving trash on the ground gets a crazy amount of bugs/rodents, and makes a soupy mess when it rains. It's also terrible for the crew to have to handle leaky dirty cardboard and trash bags flying around in the rain overnight.

I recommend people find their CDD reps here and email them a simple request to modernize the system as I have done as well.

Thank you
You have it the wrong way around. The civilized way IS the way it is done in The Villages and the incompetent and lots of work and noisy way is the way it is done up north, in my megapolis too.

I am waiting when recycling by burning everything that can be burned and turning into electrical energy to lower our hydro bills is going to be DISCOVERED in the cities too. And garbage - all of it - is picked up twice a week like here, instead of once every 14 days!

There are no bugs or rodents on our bags especially if you use scented ones. Or you can spray Lysol if a renter next door, puts out food garbage because they don’t know how to use the garbage disposal (which is not allowed in my northern city because the ancient sewer system can’t handle it). Relax. I am sorry that you are panicking but you really don’t need to.

you took the typing right from beneath my fingers. .

Why do people want to change everything to like they were from whence they came. . if they want everything like from whence they came, maybe they shouldn't have come here in the first place.

In other words, a typical day on ToTV...

It's a whole lot quicker and easier for the garbage men. They don't have to pick up those heavy cans. And for all the reasons mentioned above.

We prefer not to have bins to bring in and store.

Default 100% in Agreement

I have never lived anywhere that allowed garbage to be put out in bags. Birds have pecked and opened up the bags. I have seen garbage strewn streets and lawns. Paper blown a block down. And when walking the bags stink. Surprised yet not surprised living down here that this practice is allowed. Very unsanitary. My guess is the Village Owners don't want to pay the money for garbage cans. Also: I'm not talking about cans with take off lids; I'm talking about the big black cans with flip lids that were supplied by the municipalities I lived in. You would also need less garbage workers. Lets move up to the 21rst century.

We would have those who would say "I'm disabled and special", and like a friend of mine leaves his trash cans on the street.. Stating I can not drag those big cans back to the house, so he leaves them on the street.

I keep a 32 gallon can in the garage, with black bag in it, and deposit my kitchen bags into the black bag. Then take the black bag to the street on pickup days. Simple, efficient, and no trash cans on the street.

I much prefer the current system. I’ve had no problem with leakage etc. The trash gets picked up and no trash cans are left behind to blow around the road.
