We love the system here having come from SoCal where we had 3 different large bins that we had to use to separate our trash and different types of recyclables. It was a huge PITA, and was just getting more and more complicated at the time we were selling and moving. Don’t miss any of it! Not only was the whole process a huge hassle, but we had very lax HOA rules because our dues were only $25 annually and that was optional, so there were trash cans that never left the driveway during the week despite the rule to keep them out of site. Our neighbors across the street lined up the three large cans against their garage door and left them there permanently. The system here is fantastic, and we have zero issue with critters, bugs, etc, but maybe that’s because we do use our garbage disposal whenever possible, plus we don’t have to put our bags out until morning since pickup time is around 11am for our street. If you’re worried about birds use black trash bags as they tend to be attracted to only the white bags. I hope this system never changes.

It is very antiquated and unhygienic how we have it here in the Villages. Leaving trash on the ground gets a crazy amount of bugs/rodents, and makes a soupy mess when it rains. It's also terrible for the crew to have to handle leaky dirty cardboard and trash bags flying around in the rain overnight.

I recommend people find their CDD reps here and email them a simple request to modernize the system as I have done as well.

Thank you
Garbage cans are never attractive. We live in a beautiful place. Garbage cans would not make it more beautiful.

Where I live, some people put the garbage out the evening before pickup. I always put mine out on the morning of pickup. Last week mine was picked up at 7:45, but usually it is between 8-11 am. I live alone, and I always cut up or tear up or fold up little boxes, so with twice a week pickup, I only fill one kitchen trash bag (sometimes half). If there are bigger cardboard boxes, if it is raining, I don’t take them out, but morning rain is less common here than afternoon or evening rain.

Jimmy.....you must be new here. New people moving here seem to always want things done here like you had back home. The system works fine here, get used to it.

I have a 39-gallon bin in my garage. At the appointed time I remove the bag and put it out by the curb. I do not suffer near the trauma that you seem to endure.

That is the last thing we need. Garbage cans trashing up neighborhoods like other communities. Of course I would love to see garbage cans blowing around yards in the wind.

The things we complain about!

It appears the OP just moved from a “normal city” to TV this month because he joined this month. I love it when a new person moves to TV and immediately wants to change things to the way it was where they came from. If you liked it there, stay there.

Smile Trash cans

I agree with all the answers and want to give a shout out to our wonderful garbage men. They will take anything and do it with a smile on their faces!

The only time I had a problem was when I put my plastic bag out the night before and Coyotes got into it. I learned my lesson to only put it out the morning of!

My guess is the Village Owners don't want to pay the money for garbage cans. Also: I'm not talking about cans with take off lids; I'm talking about the big black cans with flip lids that were supplied by the municipalities I lived in. You would also need less garbage workers. Lets move up to the 21rst century.
What Village down here has birds pecking open the bags with garbage strewn down the streets and lawns, paper a block down, and bags that stink? While I'm sure you're reporting what you've actually experienced, I'd like to see a neighbor confirm it.

Your guess shows you don't understand how things work here. By "the Village Owners" you are probably attempting to criticize the Developer. He may or may not deserve criticism but he does not own the Villages and would not be the entity paying for garbage cans. Any cans that might be purchased would be paid for by either the residents, the CDDs which are funded by the residents, or the utility company which would bill the residents.

I would like to do that by the truck comes by my house at about 6:30am. I don't trust myself to be up early enough to put the bag out.

I think the system works really well, to be honest. I’ve never had a single issue in 7 years with a bag being broken. Cardboard goes out in the morning.
Where my parents live in AZ, they put their bags into a bin dug into the ground with a large lid. This is a clever way of keeping the bags hidden until pick up day. But it severely limits the amount of rubbish collected each week which can be difficult if you generate extra during a holiday.
